Hey guys, I have got my Gn fairly well tuned and running good and consistently now, only thing I see is that the turbo seems to spool rather slowly? I comes on like a pile of bricks when it does and will put the rears up in smoke all the way through third, but if you were to go full throttle right from a stop you would be well into first before the boost builds well, like 4000ish?? going down the highway where the engine is already under rpm its almost instant just a second and its there? spools very slow on the brake pedal also, but like I said once its there it goes like a paped ape? Just looking for some feedback or if this is just what I can expect, I know that this is not a small turbo but its not giant by any means, just seems like it spools a bit slow?

Whats done:

Champion GN1 heads
218* cam
Champion ported intake
Accufab 70mil with RJC plenum and plate
Ta headers
Precision Te63 with HKS racegate
Large fmic
stock MAF with 3" intake pipe and large K&N filter
Art Carr 3000 non locking stall
3.42 gears with auburn locker
TT chip with 50lb MSD's
3" Dp external gated with 3" 2 chamber and dump before axle

Thanks for the input, Ryan

Three things jump out.....

Stock MAF.... large front mount..... and 3000 stall.

MAFless or 4" Full Throttle MAF pipe with translator.... and a smaller i/c might help spoolup. I have a buddy that went 10.6's on an old Eastern front mount with the 2-1/2" piping.... it spooled pretty quick with a TE45A which is slightly larger I think than the 63.... Also... you need at least 3500 stall I would think. I have also heard people complain that the aftermarket headers slow spoolup to some extent.... as compared to stock headers.

I guess I would try in this order:

1.) New stall. I think this would make the biggest difference.
2.) MAF pipe with translator (cheaper than the i/c)
3.) Then maybe try a smaller i/c if it is still unacceptable.... or switch to a good stretch SLIC like the precision....

IMHO... down to the high 9's.... aftermaket headers are not necessary.... and are prone to leaks.

i think you should bump your stall up to at least a 3,500 as far as your headers you got the best headers on the market and im sure they are not the cause for your slow spool. with the right converter that car will be a monster. your intercooler is fine as well.

Hot, I was planning on getting a locking converter anyways so all have my guy build me a 3500 with lockup and hopefully that will help!!

If you're after better spool and you're going for that much stall why not forget the LU and go with an Art Carr 9" NL? That *will* spool...

if there is any way for you to alter timing in the mid rpm ranges you could drop out timing in that 3000-ish range to facilitate spool up....kinda radical for a street car, but it works

thats something he is going to need to decide. its best for him to do some searching on L/U and non L/U conveters and he needs to choose

The lockup converter is not a must but I do comute this car on a regular basis and it is a 30 mile drive each way and all highway, so its a hard descision, id like to shed the rpm on the highway but itll survive if I dont?!?!
