Oh wow, I didn't know I could download a bigger turbo off the internet!

They over simplified.

In my opinion, some of that is true. The advancement of technology of many vehicle systems does make it hard for small shops or DIY owners from properly repairing current models. As a GM tech I come across many things daily that can only be diagnosed or fixed by dealers or high end shops.

The computer only tells you so much, someone has to know how to interprete the information and fix the car. Some people have no reason to be under the hood of a car, most of the time they make things worse. I've had cars that threw NO CODES but still ran like crap . Scantools help but you have to know what your looking for, they don't just tell you to replace a certain part (most of the time;)). Bottom line is that if people want all of these options...abs, traction control..........they are going to have to pay for them, dont blame the manufactures for making things complicated when some people can't parallel park themselves .

if there had been an internet back in the early 80's, there would have been threads on car related websites just like this one, with everyone complaining about how complicated the new cars are and how they are going to put the small shops and home DIY mechanics out of business.
