Who is the maker of the hand-held with backlit display/recall and what model number? Trying to see if I can get one with multi plugs. Thanks!

Is there anything special to the SMC kit, or can I just order the tenma unit (which comes with the thermocouple probes)?

You can get the hand-held Tenma, probe and line all for about $110. Just so happens I found a Fluke model #52 with dual inputs, max/min recall record but no backlighting. That's ok, most of my racing will be done on Saturday anways because the rice has the place overrun on Friday night. You can purchase the long length of wire, clamp for the header and probe from SMC for $30 or hit up Omega on-line and put your own together. The only real part needed is the long feed to get it inside the car.

Then all you need is about 10 feet of thermocouple feed, type K thermocouple that is 3" long, connectors and a clamp with fitting for the header. E-Bay probably has most of the pieces under thermocouple search.

Yes, the wire is special, I believe. And the thermocouple has to be rated for our temperature range.
