Today I was checking that I had pressure in the pump of my SMC system via the attached gauge and I saw that there was meth shooting out of the pump onto the downpipe and no pressure in the system while it was priming - not a safe situation by any means.

This is the second time that SMC has let me down. I'm fed up with their parts, even though their customer service is great.

So I come to all of you meth gurus with a question:
I need a new meth kit - one with a failsafe, progressive spray, and a new tank. What are my options (SMC not being one of them)?

In the STi world, from which I come, Snow Performance and Aquamist are the leaders. Although Aquamist seems too advanced for the Buick, Snow seems like a good bet. Am I correct?

Let's hear some feedback. Thanks everyone.

Drag or Road race?

The way I make the kits for the 05 is to use the factory washer tank under the drivers front fender and mount the pump next to it. The downpipe is on the passenger side rear of the engine. I dont understand how you had a pump mounted back there

If your going to road race and need a lot of capacity, then you need to look into containing it in the trunk. Some use the large Suburu tank that mounts behind the seat others go for a fuel cell.

For a drag application, any container will work.

Haha, no..the question refers to my Buick, not the STi. I was just saying that Aquamist and Snow are the leaders in the industry for that car.

The kit on your site looks very complete. How much psi is the pump?

On water with a 15 GPH jet, we test them to over 250 PSI. On meth it will do over 200 PSI on an 15 GPH jet. Will support anything you will ever do with your Buick. And yes it is a complete kit.

I ordered the AlkyControl kit from Razor today. Very knowledgeable and nice guy to talk to on the phone.

Look forward to installing this next weekend.

I have a 88 Mazda RX7. Will an alky system fit on it? Will it make the car go really fast?? :p

Only if you get it finished it may help ya just alittle bit

working on it every day !! goin for the exhaust and some other "welding" here and there. Driveshaft should be coming in 2 weeks  gettin there !!

Ok I installed the kit, and am a little worried about the fitting of the nozzle to the up-pipe. I drilled out the hole & it fits fine, but I was only able to put 1 washer on (the most that the thickness of the pipe would allow).

On my old SMC kit, the person who installed it put what looks like some sort of quick-weld compound on the outside of the up-pipe where the nozzle attaches, making it impossible to leak from there. Is this recommended? It sounds like another step that makes sense to me... am I overlooking something?

I ran mine for a while with only 1 washer also. Had it on the inside of the pipe, didn't seem to leak any. Maybe after a while the washer compresses... When I installed the dual nozzle kit, I got washers on both sides (wasn't too easy though)

You can get both washers on. But you cant get both washers on the very first time you install the nozzle. Meaning you install the nozzle into the pipe, then tighten down the elbow. Once you tighten down the elbow the inside pipe washer will conform to the shape of the pipe exposing more threads. Once you have more threads, you can use the extra washer. On the applications I do use the outside washer, spraying some lube like WD40 on the rubber makes installation a breeze.

On some cars with steel up-pipes I dont use the outside washer. On cars with very thin up-pipes.. then i'l install the washer. Its a judgement call as you dont want to bottom out the nozzle crushing its screen into the fitting. The washers act as shims. And are there to stop boost(air) leaks from the inside of the pipe.

Once you have the elbow tightened on the nozzle and the tip is not bottom'd out.. all looks good, back it out one more time and put some red loc-tite on the pipe threads and that will keep the nozzle in place permanently. You have an in-line filter so no nozzle servicing is needed.
