This caught my eye in the email stream. So I figured I would drop a line.
Facebook sucks. I dont care if you like it.
Forums are essential to sharing and recording first hand knowledge for future use. One thing I will mention that I'm guilty of, and many others probably are as well. Is joining a forum for instant benefit. Most people find an answer and are gone. It does take some time to participate in discussions and some people arent willing or able to put in the time or effort.
I'm in my early 30s. I work at a large manufacturing plant. Part of my job is coordinating work between engineering teams, managers, and technicians. I find that many people in my age group or below barely have the attention span to finish a 10 second youtube short video without moving onto something else. Much less type up anything knowledgeable. Many have a hard time holding a logical conversation without adding made up internet words that arent yet found in a dictionary. This even applies to educated individuals.
This brings me to attracting new users. In my opinion forums aren't the deterrent. Part of the problem is most young people dont fix their cars. Most young people definitely don't own a Turbo Buick. Heck, only a select few have a Turbo Buick. However there are many people out there reviving, driving, and restoring old cars. Potentially expanding to other 80s era gm owners could increase user count.
