my car likes the turn-on point set to around 10-11 PSI. However, when turning the threshold knob down to obtain this setting the knob gets very loose. It even feels like it wants to fall off. Is this normal and if not, how can I tighten it up at this low setting? Thanks,

Sorry I cant help but I will add to your ? and bring this back to the top.

Is the knob is question supposed to keep turning around and around like there is no min-max stop point?

Thanks. Yes, the turn-on point on the SMC unit is set by a knob that has no min or max setting. The higher you set the turn-on point (clockwise rotation) the more snug the knob becomes. Problem is, at 10 PSI turn-on with my unit, it is very loose. Sure wish someone would respond. There's a lot of SMC kits out there and it's probably one of the most respected units.

Unless there is a switch with a lower range, the only thing I can think of is to bleed the boost reference. Maybe use vacumm tee with a bleeder valve. One of those KenneBell boost a jet things would work, it is a brass fitting that goes inline, there are "pills" with an orifice that you interchange to change the volume bled. That way you could go tighter on the knob, but keep the 10lb turn on point. What timing are you running, just curious :)

Mike, I'm running a Red's 100 chip at the moment. It's an old one so I think the timing is about 26*. Red has reduced the timing on the 100 chips within the past year or two. I'm getting the pesky part throttle knock but it's OK at full enrichment. I'm running 20 PSI boost on the street. What are your thoughts on the RJC Power plate? I just ordered one in hopes that it will reduce the part throttle knock.

WOW, 26*! I'm still on the 18* setting, I might switch to the 24* position on the Caspers and play around. Everyone I've talked to that has installed the power plate seems to "notice" some type of benefit. Chuck and I met a guy at sunday funday that had just installed one, and he said if fixed his part throttle knock. I think it even saved him a headgasket when his boost crept up to 30lbs, even with the 116 octane and 26* Lubrant race chip, that's a lot of boost :) Part throttle knock, hmmm...could it be egr related? It seems most of the chip burners disable egr once you get away from the 93 octane versions.

Mike, I wouldn't complain about "only" running 18* of timing. I think your car runs a tad faster than mine. I've been thinking of trying some lower timing chips and raising the boost a bit. Or, having a chip custom burned that has lower timing until full enrichment is reached. Dialing in my car with alchy on the street has been more tricky than I first thought. I haven't been able to run any faster than 109 through the traps with pure 93 and alchy.
