I am considering the purchase of an SMC alky kit, the seller is not certain whether it is progressive or not. What is the best way to tell?

if someone was selling an item especially a high dollar item he should be smart enough to know what it is? thats like selling a 1987 regal but not knowing if it is a turbo car or not?

Any used alcohol system has to be bought with caution. I would suggest it be sent to the MFG for upgrades and testing. This way your assured it is working as should. Systems that are over 2 years old should get a new pump. Just like a fuel pump.. a used one should never be trusted.

Doesnt matter who's kit.. your engine is on the line... and technology has changed leaps and bounds.

He was selling the kit for a friend and did not know the details.

Looking at the price of new alky kits, I'll probably just spend a few hundred more and buy new.
