My SMC alky kit should be here any day now. :D How much fuel pressure should I run “static” with stock injectors? How much boost should I expect to see before I max them out with the SMC kit. Also any recommendations on a strip chips would be helpful.

Thanks for the help.
Frank

Stock chip?
Stock turbo?
Most chips 42-43 line off.
The stock injectors will handle the stock turbo.
Run as much boost as knock will allow.
Stock turbo maxes out around 21-23psi.

I was running the typical 42-44 fuel psi. With stock turbo, injectors and intercooler I was running 21 psi with a ModerMusclecar 108 chip on 93 octane. So, in other words, with the stock setup I was running in race setup 100% of the time, but instead of racegas I was running 93 and alky.

BLACK6PACK,

This is what I was looking for. I was trying to plan my next purchase whether it be DP, catback, injectors or turbo-link s/w. After hearing that my stock injectors will stretch alittle more I will get the turbo-link for tuning before I go too further in upgrades.

Currently I have very entry level stuff, hot wired 307, FPR, hard MAF, 9" K&N, Thrasher 92 and the SMC kit is on its way.

Thanks to both you and ES1 for the replies.

Regards,
Frank

I am running a 93 chip with my Alky and hope to go up to a 100 octane. I think you car has to be in very good tune to run a 108 chip like BLACK6Pack does.
I think the next purchases you might look at are the power plate and having your stock injectors cleaned.

I just went to the track yesterday. With stock injectors, stock intercooler, stock converter, TA-49 with boost set at 23 #'s and fuel pressure set at 46 line off and using a Lubrant 20* street chip, I ran 12.60's at 109 mph.

With my stock setup and the 93 chip, it didn't pull as well as I wanted, so I said what the heck and put the 108 chip in there. Since the stock turbo is done at about 22 psi, I put it at 21 psi and put in the 108 chip. It made all the difference in the world. I did have the alky pump on max though. I was running high 12s at around 106mph without beating on the car too bad.

I now have a bigger turbo, intercooler, injectors etc. Last time at the track with a very bad exhaust leak I was running 114 miles per hour in the quarter at around 22-23 lbs of boost. I now have to step up to the dual injection setup.

With the stock setup on my car, I ran 12.2s@112+ with alky. The time in my sig was with 93+Xylene. I was running a Reds 93 chip and about 21-22psi of boost and denatured alcohol. My car just doesn't like timing, so I could never run a race chip with major retard going on.

I've now just upgraded to a PT51, 50# injectors, THDP, SLP cat-back and have a JL93 chip for now. Still have lots of tuning but this thing pulls like crazy in 3rd gear now :D

You guys are making me excited with all these low times on pump gas. I will post my results when I get my kit.

What was the basic process for tuning the alky kit? Did you guys set the pump speed and spray at max then back out from there? Set boost to desired level and adjust SMC kit to accomodate? Just looking for some starting points.

Thanks,

Frank

I have the boost commander in the car, so I went down the street at 18 psi, pump at 5, turn on at around 12 psi - no knock. Turned the car around cranked the boost up to 21 psi turned the knob up to 8 - 0 knock. Pulled into my driveway installed the 108 chip turned the pump to max, drove it down the road (woohoo this is what I was looking for) O2s were in line, no knock, pulling like mad. Turned the pump down to 9 and got about .5* of knock. Pulled into the driveway, set the pump to max again and parked it until the next day. I took me 4 WOT blasts to get it set to a reasonable state of tune. I then went to the track and fine tuned the fuel and other things.

Sweet... How long does you bottle last when doing WOT blasts? I asked Steve with SMC to somehow make me a gallon setup whether it's 2 half gallon bottles or a full 1 gallon bottle. I'm a boost junky so I never want to be in the situation where I need more alky.

Where did you get your 108 chip? and how much $$. And whats this "boost commander"? Is this a Buick only boost controller that's from Postons?

My car is not a daily driver, so I don't know how quick the alky goes. Plus if I were to nail the gas on the streets for more than 10 seconds, I would be scaring myself and all those around me. I took it to the track and ran it 7 times and it never got to the point where the light came on. I would say any where from 7-10 1/4 mile blasts at least.

The boost commander is built by Ramchargers for the turbobuick only. It is a digital boost adjuster that gives very linear adjustments with a total of 7psi varience. In other words, set up your wastgate actuator to 15 psi minimum and the boost commander will allow it go up to 22 psi. I think it was around $150.
