smoke out the oil filler?

Heres the deal...

I'm looking at an '87 GN, with 65K (original) the car has recently changed owners, and has since developed this problem. It has oil coming out of the oil filler cap and a little out the exhaust. The current owner believes the problem to be a bad ring?

I have not yet seen this car, so I am currently going by information the current owner has given me. he says it ran great, and then it started to smoke out the filler.

Any Ideas anyone?

Whatever the actual problem, sounds like a rebuild coming. Amazing too, another low mileage GN, 65K miles , falling apart.

John, though thats not the answer I wanted to hear, at least its honest..

A little more history on the car.

Bought new by a police officer in 1987, shortly after, decided he wanted a monte SS and sold the car to the second owner(older gentleman).

Second owner was meticulous with maintenance with 3K oil changes and the car was never abused while he owned it.

Recently, as I stated, the car changed hands, this time to a younger guy. He has had the car for about 2 months.

Ran fine when he got it, but has recently developed this problem. The new owner did not realize that T/R's can be extremely high maintenance cars. Which brings us to today...

I will inspect the car and find out just how bad it is...

is there anything simple that it might possibly be?

Have a cylinder leakdown check, and a compression check performed. That should give you an idea of the problem...

Mark, I'm figuring I'll need that, and have the tools to do the job, its just that the car is not in my possesion yet...

BTW, the car is being offered to me really cheap...

If the PVC is bad, under Boost you are pressurizing the engine, forcing oil out.....Cheap easy check!!!These engines are pretty reliable, if you do not over abuse them....

I give it 90% internal engine problems.

My typhoon had the problem as well as a bad squeak. Spun bearings for me that time.

Rings may be problem, but what damage have they done to get to that point.

I would be with intention engine needs rebuilt, then you won't be disapointed.

What da heck.......if the car's cheap it doesn't cost much to freshen the engine. Only costs me about $300 when I do mine, I think.

I'd do the compression check. HOPEFULLY it will be the PCV.

I might know someone selling an engine Good luck with your knew ride!!! Or, I could put the new motor in the 87 T !! Wait, I might not want to sell it after

I just hope if it is the rings, it didnt do any damage to the cylinder walls

Well, the engine turned out to be the least of the problems.

It definetly wasnt the PCV...

I guess I'm still looking for a stock, unmolested T/R
