I just bought a fiberglass front bumper for my GN. Although there's nothing wrong with the bumper I have, I like the "smooth" look of the fiberglass bumpers without the rub strip. So in order to match the front bumper, I also bought a used stock rear steel bumper from Brian at GBodyParts.com Online which I have already taken it apart from the reinforcement, removed the rub strip, thrashed the bumperettes and have ground all the stock round headed bolts (normally hidden behind the rub strip) into a square shape so they will fit into the stock square holes to be welded in them. All the remaining unused holes will also have to be filled in... I also had the bumper and reinforcement glass beaded to remove all the old paint and clean them thoroughly. (See picture below: top is the bumper and under is the reinforcement)
Has anyone here ever done that?...(I know I could've bought a fiberglass bumper for the rear, but I wanted a steel bumper since I drive the car on the street and I feel a little safer if I ever get it from behind...)
Thanks for your comments,
Claude.
