I went to replace my failed cam sensor and was disconnecting sensors and making sure I had the space when I broke the IAC housing off. I put no weight on it and was actually supporting it when I was pulling off the plug and it snapped clean leaving the threads in the throttle body.

Has anyone done this before?
Am I going to be able to get this out with a little patience without pulling the throttle body (I'm sure I'll break more stuff if I do this...I'm having a classic Mr-Break-Everything-I-Touch month)?
If I break off the center (the part with the spring on it) and get pliers and EZ outs out...is anyone going to think I'm a total bonehead redneck, or have I just reached that level of trouble?

I'm not mechanically "stupid" but I'm up in Eastern Canada and parts availability is not good and this is/was my DD. I've got to get a rental now. I sure could use a little insight into whether I should attempt this with an extractor or pliers or give up and pull the whole throttle body.

I'd appreciate any insight anyone can give...

If you can get some sort of an easy-out in there and try to turn it out. If the hole inside is too big maybe you can tap an allen wrench in there and try turning it out. Let us know how you're coming.

Giving up for tonight...its past midnight, but I'll post progress after tomorrow night. I've got a big easy out that might fit.

If you can post a pic. of what you have left it would be helpful.

Obviously if there's anything sticking out the hole you could possibly get a flat punch on it and hammer in the off direction. PB Blaster lube the thing first a lot and often. Or perhaps get vice grips on whatever is left.

But you mentioned it's flush with the opening and in that case you possibly could find a coping saw fine blade or a hacksaw blade at worst case and start to cut through the metal left in the hole.

BEFORE you hit the threads in the throttle body you could perhaps get a punch and snap the threaded ring inside or punch it upwards to break it away from the threads and allow removal.

I did it once and cut out a section in two places and the rest was pried out rather easily with a flat bladed screwdriver.

However that isn't a method for someone who's prone to breaking things at this time (no offense intended) as it's a very slow process and needs a great deal of visual and "feel" to not ruin anything.

Pulling the throttle body to work on the bench isn't that bad of a proposition if you need a better view or access to the thing.

Good luck.

Went out to shut off the stereo and figured..what the heck, might as well give it a try. Since it was flush I was pretty much hooped...I broke/cut the center section out while pulling it out to give as much room as possible for the extractor. Then I popped the piece jammed in it into the IAC hole. Stuck the extractor in, tapped it in gently with a 3lb (LOL..all I had near me) and it backed out so easy I nearly fell over.

I'm glad I stepped back to breathe... but I'm shutting it down there tonight as I want to keep my luck on the good side.

Thanks for the suggestions guys.

You could also get the BOP angle boss and then another sensor.
