So I picked up a WE4.........

And although I think I found the right car, WE4 with T-Tops, super straight, 85K original miles, no rust. This was a drag car, fiberglass bumpers, shocks, air bags set up for racing. (That's the good part). (Now the bad) Most of the motor was in the trunk and missing things like the front sway bar and a bunch of misc stuff, which I think I've found most of what I need. Here's the problem, there's hardly any bolts to put this back together! Where can I find them, if I knew what I was looking for (sizes, TPI, etc).

Winter's coming, going to pull the motor soon. It's supposed to be rebuilt and ready to go, but I question that, find out soon. Any help is greatly appreciated.

There are a few of these types of companies out there.

The Chassis fasteners may be more of a challenge.

Bolts? We dont need no stinking bolts. Just weld every ting that touches the other ting. Then no one can steel any ting.

earlbrown- a member on here knows just about every bolt size for these cars and sells bolt kits. He can also make you a custom kit too. He has hooked me up on several occasions so give him a shout and get that beast put back together soon.

So not only are bolts missing, the wiring harness is a mess. They tied all of the grounds together and ran a separate wire directly to the battery, is this a common thing to do? A bunch of splices in the harness need repair as well. Electrical is no problem, I've rewired many cars over the years. I wished there was better documentation available? I purchased a CD of the manuals and so far it's been a waste of money. When I built my 69 GS, I bought a Assembly Manual that was the go to book. Does anything like that exist for the 87's?

Consider buying a used one or a new one from Caspers.

I'd consider a good used one, if I could find it. A new one would be nice, but not in budget with everything else I need to do to get it running. I'm degreed in electronics and have reworked a number of harnesses in the past. Just another winter project. Thanks

That is the worse thing you can do! Those are signal grounds from the sensors on the engine and have to go back to the computer...not the battery. Put the grounds back on the engine block.

And you sound see how it was done. Crimp on's and a big bolt warped in black tape.

Congrats on your new car and winter project. I would urge you to re-consider a new harness from Caspers if he can still make one. (He is running low on connectors). Especially since you are pulling the motor.

I was in your boat about 5 years ago, motor out, harness was old with many splices. I agonized over the cost of getting a new harness-it is a bitter pill to swallow. I swallowed that pill and it was one of the best decisions I made. Like you, I am not afraid of wiring and electrons, but It will save you multiple future heartaches and weird problems.

Regardless, I wish you a fruitful frozen season of wrenching.
