Hey, im new to the board, i have a 71 Camaro that I am in the process of selling so I can buy a Grand National. Right now I am really interested in one...heres the details. It is an 87 GN, around 100k on the body and 40k on the rebuit motor, the body and interior are in excellent condition, trunk and floorboards have no rust at all, I couldn't find really any problems except for the turbo has to be rebuilt (I plan on putting a new one anyway as I mod it). Its up for 8900. I have done some research on GN's but would like some advice on if this is a good deal or not. Personally, it sounds alright to me. I just have to get my Camaro sold (8500obo). Thanks.

That sounds like a fair price for the car described. If possible you should try to drive a couple different turbo Buicks to get a better feel through comparsion.

These cars are getting old, so suspension, transmission, rear end, motor, electrical, etc. could be going south.

I would recommend a leak down or compression test by a qualified mechanic. Might cost you $100, but at least you can get some idea of the engine condition. A good PPI (pre-purchase inspection) could save money in the long run. They should look for accident damage, rust, parts wear, and paint.

In my opinion $8900 is kinda high for a 100,000 mile car with a smoked turbo. Also when one of these cars has a rebuilt motor you need to be 100% sure of what components such as the rods, crank and pistons were put in the motor.

Not many turbos go bad at 100k, and these motors should never have to be rebuilt at 60k as he had done, so he prolly has beaten the sh*t out of the car. Its up to you, but id never pay 8900 for a 100k GN without serious performance upgrades....i got my 120k in great condition last summer for 4200.

Yup

Do you guys think something around 8000 give or take a little would be more reasonable (that is if he takes the new offer)?

Thanks for the help, its appreciated.

Start the bidding close to $7000, I couldn't see going beyond 8.

listen to these guys, they know what theyre talking about. you just have to look at more thats all. i personally looked at at least 5, maybe 6(cant remember) before i bought mine. it gives you a better feel of what the cars are supposed to be like. trust me, at the time the first one i looked was "perfect", but looking back, i am forever in debt to my curiosity and the members of this board for taking the chance and looking around more. igot a higher mileage car, but ive driven it daily since i got it last summer, and have put on almost 22k already and not one major problem yet......

Personally that still seems too high to me....but I'm scared of other people's work beyond bolt on stuff. And turbos aren't exactly cheap although I just saw a supposedly low mile stock turbo on Ebay looking like it would go pretty cheap. Of course that's a whole new opportunity to get screwed right there....
