What sounds do you hear when turbo is going south?

Any other signs that should be known?

Smoke is generally a good sign.

Clanking noises are a good indicator too(although I only heard one loud clank before it was all over when a bolt flew into my compressor).

I suggest removing your MAF pipe, and feeling for shaft play with your fingers. In-and-out, and side-to-side.
