speedo gear/bullet issue

The 2004r in my sons 69 Firebird didn't have a speedo gear on the bullet. I bought a new GM gear for it but it will not insert into the bullet. It's way too tight. Any idesa?

Where did you get the gear from?

Are you sure it is one for the 2004r?

Did you look at the link? It has a chart with different options for tire height and rear gear ratio to help select which bullet and governor gear that is needed as well as pix of the gears. You do have to scroll down to the 2004r section.

it is a stock 84 T Type tranny I ordered the correct gear for it
