If the RPM in the dash is not right with speed on the dash, is the hole dash cluster gone south our is it some thing in the tranny?

Well if I'm reading your question right, odds are good that the tach is off. Caspers can recalibrate the tach/boost gauge and that part is removable from the rest of the cluster and its common for them to be way off.

If the mph shown by the ecm matches the mph on the speed needle, then that part of the cluster is fine. Speed sensor for the ecm is right on/in the back of the cluster.
