I thought only Jay Leno and people with rock-star type money could get access to the SRT8 Challengers right now?

But there it was - a black one with those gray 'ghost' stripes waiting to make a left in front of me. Even though he had the right of way, I let him go in front to get a good look at it. It's a gorgeous car - no two ways about it. Very nicely done. I want.

Jim

Saw one in person a while back. Very nice. Got a friend who works at a Mopar dealer and he is going to be getting his 09 in a few weeks. Going to use it as a daily driver here in CT.

My, how things change...
An 08 just sold locally, for 20K OVER! [Same dlr had 2 sitting there, when I went past, last Fri.]
My bud just ordered his 09... $1500.00 off.

Last weekend in our local parade our Dodge dealer had one:biggrin:

Suprised everyone, town size of 2500 people in north central Kansas:eek: and a very small Dodge dealer.

I bet it can be had at a good deal! I think I am going to test drive it this weekend:biggrin:

Oh yeah, in case anyone is interested it is Orange with Black stripes.

The dealer around me has 2 black ones in the show room. The owner of the dealer was super nice to us and we were all over those cars. They even started it for us so we could hear it run. Asked to test drive and they said no one is aloud to drive it but the one who buys it. I guess they dont want to deal with tire kickers. I wanted to trade the GN in for one. Just a bad@ss car. Dont worry though, I came to my senses, not getting rid on the GN. They how ever said that I could bring the GN up and pull it in the show room next to the Challengers and get some pictures. They also wanted to know if I'd leave the GN for a day in the show room with the Challengers just for the attraction of it all.

There are several dealers near me that have had em for a couple of months. It is not too uncommon to see one on my way home from work on a nice day. Of couse, I do drive by the Chrysler tech center daily, so I am sure a lot of execs got first dibs when they came out. They look great, but I would never pay a dime of dealer mark-up for it. Its just a two door Charger/Magnum/300.

I think those new Challengers are dead sexy, but give it some time, as soon as those $20,000 V6's are on the market they'll be dirt common. Right now it's WOW a Challenger, in a year when there's 3 outside every grocery store who cares then?

Also they're fat pigs. They weigh in at like 4200 pounds with a half tank of gas? That's a lot of pork you gotta haul down a track or around a corner.

Basically it boils down to there's no F'ing way I'm paying $40K for a Dodge anything not with their recent track records in quality and that warranty I hear nothing but complaints about. Also every day they're pumping out those Challengers they get less "oh hell YEAH it's a Challenger" and more "oh yawn, another Challenger", right now a Challenger is a crowd gathering beauty, in a year (or less) that won't be the case anymore, so the car will have to stand on it's quality and speed and performance, and I got a bad feeling it's gonna be a little disappointing on that front, probably on all 3 of those points.

I definitely wouldn't buy one early regardless if I were willing to spend the dough or not, let someone else find all the "common problems" with the car I'll maybe think about it in late 09 when I can buy a "year end closeout" SRT8 (MANUAL!!!) for 8K off MSRP :D

Those cars are incredible, everything I thought they should be. Very sexy car, just add a snail or blower and it won't matter how heavy they are.;)

I saw my first one yesterday at homedepot a lady was driving it.
The car looks great in every way BUT I would never ever buy a Dodge or Chrysler.
Ok maybe a Viper but that would be it.

I have been in one, the torque management was bad in first but after that the car moved out very nice. Front seats were perfect.

Only one I've seen is at a local Dodge dealership. It was orange with black stripes. Haven't seen one on the road yet though. Good thing I haven't because I just get too distracted and have a fender bender. :D

I've seen 3 so far. All state troopers.

I believe you are mistaking the Charger for them. All of the 08,s were spoken for before they hit the street. Some were ordered by dealers but most individuals had to put down a hefty payment to guarantee delivery.
A friend of mine got his about two weeks ago at a grand total of $47,000. Hey it's his money.
One dealer here has 4. Two orange and two black. I had to go by and drool on them.

I guess good or bad press is better than no press. Ain't seen anyone talking about the new Toyotas or Hondas and we all know those cars never ever break. It's a wonder their dealerships even need service departments. Yep, I'm laying on the sarcasm pretty thick.

Zangara Dodge had 3

They had 3 of them 2 Orange and one black. The black hood stripe is a faux carbon fiber graphic looks cool. Very nice lookin car they should have put the Viper engine in it then that modern day wanna be hemi. 20K markup we were talking to a guy with a tricked out Dodge diesel and he asked them to see how much they'd give him for his rig to run the papers he had paid close to 50k for the truck with upgrades last year. He came back from the test ride and said his diesel would smoke the Challenger plus he was going to be upside down if he traded for the Challenger.

The door tag wt. said the orange pig weighed over 4200lbs. Hey the car is like seeing a knock out beautiful gal driving around town on cruise night, she winks at you and signals you to park, you turn your Buick around to park and meet her , she smiles at you your heart races your thinking man she's a dead ringer for Cindy Crawford (remember those Pepsi commercials)then she gets out of her car and it's then you find out she weighs 280lbs..

Now they had 2 Vipers a Tangerine and red one now both were advertised to have 650 ponies. The red one was a red ACR Viper with Carbon fiber splitter, diffuser, a huge rear wing the down force goes from 100lbs to 1000lbs with the addittion formentioned CF accessories, some expensive stickies front and back now those were some sexy machines. My opinion is they should have offered 2 SRT options for the Challenger a Hemi powered SRT8 and a SRT10 Challenger. Now 650 HP should get that 4200+lb Orange pig down the road with some authority.

We had one come out to the 1/2 mile Drag races/shootout in Nebraska this week.

He ran 128 in the 1/2 mile. Everyone wanted to race him and most beat him like a rented mule. I never got a chance to run him, but I had him covered by nearly 10 mph, so it wouldn't have been fair, anyway.

For Reference a New G8 ran 123 in the 1/2 and an '08 Cobalt Turbo ran 119 mph.

Stock GT 500's, ZR1's (old) and c6 vettes were running mid 130's. New ZO6's were in the 140's.

The fastest "Driver" street can in the 1/2 mile was a New ZO6 with heads/cam spraying a 200 shot that ran 160 mph in the 1/2 and (190 in the mile)

The fastest car in the mile and 1/2 mile was Ron Adees twin turbo small block chevy one lap of America "viper" (184 mph in the 1/2, 219.8 in the mile)

The Challenger looked good, but was thoroughly outclassed by a GT500 and C6 Vettes. Good thing when production ramps up they won't be asking GT500 or Corvette money, anymore.

went to go watch the bears practice and a guy had one there from a local dealer. said they were selling it for 55.000

I saw 3 of them being delivered to the Dodge Dealership down the street from my work. All of them were orange.

Out of curiousity I called a local dealer, he said he had one unsold, $56,000 I laughed and said "anyone willing to pay that much deserves to pay that much".

When the 09's come out with a manual trans I might check again but I just don't see paying even MSRP for one of them. I'll be curious to see how the resell holds up, if it's like most Dodges you should be able to pick up used ones a year or two old for cheap.
