I am starting work on my high mileage car that is new to me. I pulled the intercooler last night and cleaned some oil out of it. Up pipe had oil in it. Then I decided to clean the throttle body which led me into removing the upper plenum. I find the egr passage blocked with carbon and generally oily lower intake. Would it be worth my te to pull it and clean the oily residue out and clear the egr passage?

If I pull it should I do anything to it since it will be off?

Car has #36 injectors 3"down pipe 2.5" exhaust aftermarket up pipe and pipe coming from MAF.

Welcome to a great board, you will find a lot of knowledgeable members who can help you out with your needs.
What has been done to the high mileage on your engine, and what is the mileage?
It's best to clean all carbon buildup that you can see and reach at.
As far as the EGR, clean that also and place a new gasket, I used a copper gasket
What other upgrades does the engine has besides #36 injectors 3"down pipe 2.5" exhaust aftermarket up pipe and pipe coming from MAF?
Do you have a ScanMaster?
Boost gauge?
fuel gauge (can be mount on fuel rail)
oil pressure gauge?
Here is a site to do some spring cleaning - http://www.gnttype.org/maint/basics.html

No scanmaster yet. It does have a kenne bell knock sensor but it is not hooked up and i can not find any info on how to hook it back up. It has a boost gauge in the car as well as temp and oil pressure gauge. There is a remote fuel pressure gauge under the hood. The car has a chip but i am not sure who's chip it is. It is hand written the mileage it was put in.

I was told when i bought the car that it has 225K miles on it. They told me it had a 100K on it when they bought it in late 90's early 2000's.

My plan that started all of this was while i am waiting for my floor pan to come in I can start the spring cleaning. Start with the free stuff and move on little by little.

Improvement for the car on my list
new chip
Hot wire kit
Scanmaster

I ended up pulling the intake tonight. I has a lot of oil residue in the valley. Going to take it and let it soak in my parts washer at work.

Boy , Do you have have your hands full, but I commend you on your effort to rebuilt a classic car
Is it possible you can take several pictures so members can see what you have and and what needs to replace?
