When ever I try to run Spybot it comes up with a little box and just starts scanning, and closes itself afterwards. I want to run an update, but it never stays open after it finishes the scan. So anyone know how I can get back into there to check for updates?

Thanks

You in "advanced" mode? Look for the link in your start menu (not the desktop)

Hrmm... ok, I havent ran a scan recently in spybot, but you may have turned on one of the options in the "System Start" section.

Either uninstall - then reinstall or try another program. Spycop recently beat spybot in some trivial doesnt matter feature so it should work well... although not free, there is a trial.

Ive never really cared for Ad-aware personally but it could probably do just fine for you, and last check was free.

I tryed to uninstall it and reinstall it, but it didn't help, I know I have GAIN on here, there is an Icon on my desktop telling me I do. Spybot got rid of it before, but now its not finding it. And Spybot was searching 12000+ files before, now its only searching about 6000 files... double dang.

How about going to My Computer->Local Disc C->Program Files or whatever it was installed in to open it?

Ok, gotta move on. You can come BACK to it later.

Uninstall. Make sure the directory is gone also (config file gone!). If feeling savy, remove any entries in the registry.

Move to ad-aware or maybe Spycop and clean your system. After its all cleaned up, you can decide what you want to use. I havent tried the regcleaning tools In a while but there are some (what OS?) out there if you cant seem to get spybot removed.

If stubborn, like me, and you want to "win" go to your config file and look for this:

_______________________
[Automation\SystemStart]
AutoRun=0
RunOnce=0
WaitStart=0
WaitPrograms=0
WaitMore=0
AutoClose=0
_______________________

Your AutoClose= is likely set to "1". This file if using XP is likely located in "C:\Program Files\Spybot - Search & Destroy" and is named: "Default configuration.ini"
