Is there an easy way to determine between an ST 300 (BOP 2 spd auto) and a Powerglide?

Is the pan the same?

I've found what I think is a BOP glide. It is in a 68 Firebird with a 6 cylinder. Do you know what gearset it would have if it is a glide?

TIA

Roger

generally

a 300 will have turbo input splines {30 spline} like a th350 or th400 and the pan is different.

A glide pan is almost a perfect square or rectangle and a 300 pan is square in front and on the sides but starts getting triangular towards the trans mount.

6 cyl glides are 1.82
8 cyl glides are 1.72

I'm not quite sure of the ratio of the 300 but i think they were 1.82's

The low servo by the dipstick on a glide is a 3 bolt cover, whereas the 300 is snap ringed in.

300's also have a governor set up like a th350.

Six cylinder 'Glide

Check that the trannie in the six cylinder you are looking at has oil cooler lines. I know that all early Chevy six cylinder PGs were air cooled and had several very large holes in the "bellhousing" portion of the trannie case. I always thought that it looked like something that could break if too much torque was applied.
