How much power you planning to make? If you have an off center I am guessing 1200hp or less?
Just buy new rods. 6.5" is to long makes piston design difficult etc. By the time you buy used rods recon them and replace the bushings you are at or over new price anyway. If staying 750hp or less I would run K1's anything above that would be Crower billets. Stay away from Carrillos at anything over 750hp. You can use on center rods in an off center block as well and I believe it is preferred as the power goes up as it doesn't side load the bearing. There was a new set of 6.35 Crower billets in the for sale section this week for $850.
Cranks, I like forged BMS cranks some people don't. Most will tell you not to go over 1000hp with them I took one way past that without any issues. Finding nice ones is getting tough. If you are staying in the 1000-1200 range I would look for a nice BMS and if you can't find one I would just go with one of the off shore cranks. I wouldn't be afraid of a .010/.010 crank but beyond that buying wide journal bearings is difficult. I like 3.59 stroke cranks, I ran a 3.625 BMS pretty hard for a long time and it was .010/.010. I would stay away from the 3.75" stroke to much involved and I "heard" they may have some issues with balance.
Of course if you are planning north of 1200hp a new billet crank is the only way to go.
Good luck with the build. Share pics of the process and feel free to ask questions.
