having trouble with the ignition lock on my column again so i decided to replace it. the white plastic connector on the replacement column (if i remember right it came from an 87) has an additional terminal on it, does anyone know what its for or if its required? original 85 column connector is in first pics. TIA

It's for the automatic locks on the full sized cars. The neutral safety switch is pretty much a standard part used on everything. The automatic lock feature activated the power locks. When you pulled it out of park the power locks would automatically lock. On some cars it also works the parking brake. Set the park brake and when you pull it into gear it releases the park brake.

where

where is the switch located??? near to floor or near the dash---on the column.
