Stick With My TE-44 Or Go Up To A 61BB???

At 18 PSI a stock turbo will not be faster then a TE-44 Turbo with the same Boost.I never run only 14lbs of boost.I run 18lbs of boost on the street and never had a problem.The stock Turbo has virtually no power over 60 mph unless you throw in a special chip,race gas and alky.

With ported heads a TE44 will be much quicker/faster than a stock Turbo at 18 psi.

On a car with stock heads it won't be.

My stock turbo ran 12.2's @ 110 mph at 20 psi with a T100 chip and 100 octane.

I don't know of a large turbo that could pull that off with a 100% stock motor, and that is 20 psi, not 18 psi.

Wasn't my original words, it was someone elses, I even made a post about it. They basically were trying to say under 18 PSI a stock turbo is more efficient than a TE-44, above 18 PSI the TE-44 starts to shine.

That deals specifically with a stock longblock. Ported Heads changes everything.

The Mass flow of ported heads at a given boost level would make a turbo larger than the stock turbo more effecient.

It may be the case however, that a TE44 is more effecient or makes more HP under the curve than a larger turbo would at low boost levels.

Every turbo has a map that shows where their strengths and weaknesses lay. If Big turbo always made the car faster, why don't we all slap on the biggest turbo possible?

I'm actually going to tweak my street chip from Eric at TT to have the lock up feature due to the 5 disc being a beast and can take 100's of lock ups. Hell ask Dave how many times he's tortured the lock up and it's still locking away. I like the lock up while on the highway ( 2200rpm at 75mph ) and the fact that it's 100% locked in 3rd at the track so I'd get the 5 disc.

My 3400 gives me 0 boost around 2800 and on the transbrake can get pretty crazy so I'm talking to Eric about a 2 step in his chips to control the rpm on the brake. But since I'm going to be locking it in 3rd I'm not concerned with how loose the converter is due to the higher stall. I also gave myself room to go to a bigger turbo IF I wanted too.

Alky and converter, we're all saying pretty much the same stuff too you and you'll love the TE44 even more after these mods.

I dont see a Rjc valve in there. It really helps spool up, and ditch red's chip for a TT. I promise just those mods will help spool it up. With Eric's chip you can pull fuel, and add timing to help spool it up.

I have an RJC valve but it can't be installed.I don't have the stock type actuator.I have a Racegate setup at the crosspipe underneath the car.The Racegate is very old also.Im going to get rid of the Racegate setup and go with a THDP then I will be able to install the RJC valve.I have a Jay Carter chip from many year's ago for my 009 injector's.Another thing I have to decide on if I should keep the 009 Injector's .My next chip will be a TT one.

Precision Converter has two lock up converters for us, the single disc and the multi disc ( 5 ). The single disc is what the stocker and many have locked it up a bunch with success at the track ( the more power you make the more abuse it will take and eventually not lock up to 100% ). So those of us who want 100% at the track get the 5 disc, about $200 more I believe.

You sure you can use the RJC with your race gate? I'd assume the chain would go turbo comp fitting to RJC, then RJC to wastegate. That's all it would take, I have a turbo Talon and it's that same chain for my wastegate. No need to blow more $$ than you need to.

PTE .63 is an upgrade in power over the Garrett stuff and the RJC should help the spool up loss if there was any.

The Garrett will make more torque down low so it should "feel" stronger than the Precision.

Two things that can cause it to feel weak:

1. a wastegate hole/puck combo that isn't fully sealing

2. The 3 bolt flange is warped slightly allowing it to bleed off a tiny bit of exhaust pressure.

I've had both of these happen and both will make the car lazy.

You were going to purchase alky system anyway so why not save yourself 2 grand and some change for now the cost of a 61 bb turbo 60lb injectors and TTchip. Push the 44/009's/TTchip with alky a lil harder if not satisfied then upgrade. Think you will be pleasantly surprised. The 44 and 009's maybe considered old school technology but they still get the job done. Able to get 25psi out of the 44 on pumpgas(crappy 91) and Methanol at a mile high in 90+ degree weather. Nice old combo.

Great now your on board with what we are all saying. I loved my 44, I ran it with 009's and alky on a stock converter and it was great. After I was satisfied with that, I went to more converter and a 6152. I am still running the 009's with alky.

I don't have a wastegate hole or puck.I got a Racegate near the middle of the crosspipe.I have had about 3 runs on the street a piece between the Garret housing and the Precision housing.Each time with about a 3 to 4 lb launch the Precision seemed to hit harder with more power.I did notice with the Garret that as I hit full Boost the car hooked hard to the left.I didn't do a burn out with any of the runs.I just think with my Race head's,front mount intercooler,ported intake manifold the Precision .63 is superior even on the street.

It looks like a waste of money to go to a 61BB Turbo if Im not going to race it.Right now my TE-44 is very reliable at 18lbs of Boost with 93 Octane.If I can run 11.50's with the TE-44 and Alky I don't think it would be worth it to buy a 61 BB Turbo.Remember I don't expect to use 100 octane gas so Im taking mostly everybody's advice and sticking with my TE-44.I just want to change to a precision 63 Housing.

The hose from the comp fitting to the RJC can be literally 2" long, the rest of the hose will be long but go to the feed on your wastegate. When you need to make psi changes you loosen the screw on the RJC and then screw in a little clockwise and you're done, nothing more than popping the hood and loosening the screw.

I didn't know the RJC valve would work installed right near the Turbo because I have a Racegate at the crosspipe rather then the stock type actuator.Anyway I did install it near the Turbo but I didn't feel any difference and the Boost was the same.I don't think I adjusted Boost on the RJC valve though.I thing that has to be done at the Racegate.There's no direction's for those who have bought RJC valve's that have a Racegate like I do
