Are there any "known mods" that you can do to extend the performance if you use the stock air box system?

I am working on ways to make my car look original as possible while balancing the best performance enhancements that I can with the stock or stock appearing components.

Thanks,

Joel

Along with a K&N filter for the stock box, Kirban markets an aluminum lid to increase air flow. Looks stock from above.

I've cut the bottom out of the stock box and cut the mounting bracket in 1/2 and rotated it around to support the fwd and back lips of the lower box and provide clearance for a 6.5" cone filter.

On the top box I removed the inlet restrictions and modified it so that a slightly modified (inlet shortened, smoothed) LT1 MAF sensor would fit inside.

Barb and roller cabinet door fastners snap the top lid to the base.

Here is a picture of the set up out of the car

And a picture of it mounted in the car

My white T-type when 11.53@118 with drag radials, bluetops, a TA 49 and a stock intercooler with a big neck using this aircleaner set up so it shouldn't be a restriction for most street driven TR's.

Cool. Thanks for the replies guys. I had a spare air box laying around. Tonight I started playing with it and opened up areas on three of the four sides of the bottom with my dremel and a cutting wheel. That should let some good air in under wot. It does not look like the openings will be very visable either when the maf duct is installed etc...

I will try this first and see how it goes!

Thanks again!

Joel

The box is a restriction, but once you open the bottom, the throat/shaft mount were the elbow attachs becomes the next largest restriction.

That's why I went to alternative method to attach the top of the lid to the bottom rather than use the factory shaft/nut.
