stock down pipe question

Does anybody know if the flange on the exit side of a stock 84 downpipe is the same as a 86/87? I want to bolt on a test pipe in place of my converter but can't find one for a 84/85. I found several for sale for a 86/87 gn and need to know if that will work for me.

The 86-87 is a slip fit, no flange. I did this years ago and cut the flange off the stock downpipe. You will have to measure the length between exhaust and downpipe for your order as it's different between the 87 and 84s.

Would you happen to know if a test pipe for a stock 86/87 would fit after I cut the flange from the down pipe of my 84?

You might be better off welding a flange to the test pipe. NAPA has the flange.
