Say you had a stock fuel pump on a high 11 sec GN do you think that upgrading to a Walbro 340 would make a nice difference in performance? Im just wondering if you would actually get a nice gain from it?

I no that the stocker is a POS, but just curious to know.

i think the gain you would have is bieng ahead of the disaster that will happen to you if you dont. you ay see a gain from a better volume tune alot of cars love more fuel

The stock pump is barely able to support a bone stock car, let alone one that can handle 11s. I would do a Walbro if they fixed their warranty issues. I tested one on a flow bench one time and got one to flow almost 700 horsepower worth of fuel:eek:

I thought the Walbro was fixed??? Is mike at Full throttle selling them still?

I haven't been following the Walbro deal lately. Someone else can chime in and let us know if those pumps are safe to buy again. I'm going to be needing one for my 86 here shortly!:D

You gain power when you're AF/R isn't rich enough to support a safe power ratio. This happens all the time on high HP FI cars, they swap to a bigger pump and the top end shines even more.

I can't believe members would consider buying a Walbro after how long they let that crap ass pump in the market screwing members out of their hard earned money and destroying other parts affected by it. Some people must not mind getting bent over again and again in the car parts jail.

It's not an issue to guys like Grumpy because he didn't have one take a dump on him and blow up an engine, head gaskets or at minimum leave him stranded somewhere.

Hard to believe members are cool with companies selling crappy pumps to communities like ours? You realize Weakbroke only found out years later their pumps were crap because far too many members complained about them right, don't believe me, check out how far back the recall goes. Nice quality control Weakbroke. :o

Best part is Weakbroke pulls pumps off their shelves but don't issue a statement or recall to the consumers. Weeks go by with tons of new threads about members with dying pumps. :(

Oh, they fixed the problem now, ok, it's all good, pretend it never happened. Let's all support them again because they earned it and there's nothing else out there we can buy that is better and more reliable.

Drink this Vodka and lay down in a bunk bed with this purple cloth over your face and torso. Keep a five dollar bill and three quarters in your pocket and put on a black shirt, sweat pants, brand new black-and-white Nikes and armband patches reading "Walbro Gate Away Team." Everything will be ok people, just wait for the Comet and run this fuel pump.

I'm not a fan of those that deliberatley sell crap parts, but if they at least made an attempt to rectify the situation....have you checked to see if there's a recall going on?

(I haven't, but I've not had any issues with mine....yet[knock on wood])

Well, I'm new to the whole GN thing. I have a bone stock 1987 GN that I'm about to upgrade the turbo, down pipe, and exhaust, duttneck the intercooler, add the chip and alky. Hopefully I'll have all this done by the end of the year. I've been reading up on fuel pumps and all I've been hearing is buy the Walbro. Whether they've fixed it or not, I don't think I want to risk blowing my **** up. So, after reading all these horror stories about the Walbro, I'd like to go with a different kinda all together. So, what kind should I get if it's not a Walbro.

Thanks,
Casey

i think that you are bieng a little harsh here. and i know everyone has the right to bitch but walbro has made a awesome fuel pump that has gone far in the turbo buick world as i am sure with many other applications. so one day they put out a small batch of bad pumps that last somewhere between 4 days to 3 yrs. your going to tell me that is bad business and that they now are branded a bad company and to tell everyone to stay away from them. everyone makes mistakes. i am sure they were all bench tested and passed but its up to us as consumers to report back any if all bad results which i am sure were done but i am sure they were very minor amounts compared to the big picture. as far as your motor it is up to you to create a visual monitoring system to maintain how your fuel system is working not saying you didnt but to beat on your car enough to blow it up could of been prevented by watching. as far as reporting it when you ot guys on here that are new to these cars that dont know how to tune and monitor and you tell them to put in a walbro they think that it is all up to par and never think about watching it because its new and the pump goes bad and they see knock and dont know what to do so they start turning down boost and they still get knock further hurting head gaskets or bearings never reporting the pump because they cant diagnose the problem so walbro never gets all the feedback to take action. so i would say that all the years that they made pumps these very few pumps that were bad is pretty damn good it doesnt and shouldnt scare anyone away. a pump that supports 10's and lower with a little alky and for 99 bucks is pretty awesome. next time keep your eye on your fuel pressure gauge

WOW I didn't know we had people watching our back for us  .. as most people know we DRIVE her car EVERYWHERE!!! We DID have one fail  .. Car wouldn't start for me twice .. Car would start again in like 10 min. We thought we had a ground issue so we clean everything and the car seamed ok ..drove it around for a few weeks with no problems .. car ran fine.. then went racing with it .. Car wasn't reacting to changes we were making.. didn't take a brain surgeon to figure out something was wrong.. we stopped racing and drove home .. NO blown engine or headgaskets :p Sometime when ya think something isn't right ya have to dig to find the problem and fix it.. hell we are beating this car to death!!! Melissa has a watchful "eye" on our "tune ups" Can it blow up ??? HELLLLLL YA !!!! If ya have a problem with a PERFORMANCE car breaking GET OUT and get a normal car!! oh ya they break to BUT have warranty's :p
This a a $100 pump that has worked great since we went with them in the late 80s.. You think a pump is goin to last forever ???? GET REAL!!!
oh one last thing... It isn't if the car breaks but WHEN it breaks!!! :p

Have to add one more thing about our pump.. Melissa ran 9.94 @ 138+ with it.. had a LOT of runs on it and about 20k street miles on it !! It took a dump ...booooo hooo
