I have read in the past that there are three (3) letters on the bottom of a GN factory (stock) transmission indicating that it is a specific transmission made for the GN and not just a standard 2004r. I believe this has to do with a certain type of valve body. Is this correct? And if so where would you find these letters? And what are the letters? Is it BRF?

The 1986 GN/TR transmission has a blue tab on the rear side of the tailshaft with "BRF" lettered on it.

The 1987's have a yellow tab with the same markings.

The 1986 valve body will have a blue "BR" in paint, and the 1987 will be in yellow paint.

Thanks Nick.
Here is a picture of the bottom of the transmission.

The pan is right. Is the BRF tag on the tail as mentioned above? Take the pan off and check g
For the code on the valve body.
