Stock MAF screen

A few months ago the a vac line blew off and it sort of back fired while under boost. I replaced the vac line and all was fine. Today I found the MAF screen inside the air filter box. I flattened back out and sandwiched it between the retainer rings. Should it be okay or is there anything else I should be aware of.

I think it's mainly to straighten out and distribute the air.
Should be ok. I've run the maf's with one or no screens.

I do not think is matters. The 84/85 ECM is not smart enough to know the difference. Brad
