im running the stock GN turbo on a 2.2L motor. reading the compressor maps, the lag shouldnt be too bad at all, however i am hitting boost much later than i was with a slightly smaller turbo (t3 .60/.63)

when i swapped the turbine housings over (ford 5 bolt .63 a/r t3 housing), i noticed the GN turbine didnt fit in the housing as well, and i needed to kiss the housing a little bit for it to not rub

as title states, does the stock t04b turbo have the same turbine as a standard t3?

Sounds like you might have a mix mashed turbine wheel to turbine housing fubar going on. I'm pretty sure the turbine wheel on a stock 86-87 TBO-348 turbo is different than the one on your other "slightly smaller turbo."
Each turbine housing is specifically cut to the contour of the turbine wheel it was designed to work with. Altering or slightly kissing the turbine housing as you say, is not the right way to swap turbos and or housings. If the clearance from the wheel to the tongue of the housing is too much, you will see lag. If that clearance is not enough, the wheel will drag, and or hit and eventually break off when it's spinning at 85k - 120k rpms under boost.
I do not recommend swapping housings with out knowing 100% for certain if the housing was machined for the wheel you are trying to use. It's a recipe for disaster.
