welp i am ready for my next mod.
i am seriously considering buying a new turbo for my national
it's a hot air 85.
i am thinking bout going with the t33, because it is direct bolt up.

basically i was wanting to know the pros and cons of this turbo over the stock turbo. i basically wanted to know how many pouds of boost you can get out of a t33 as compared to the stock 85 turbo.

have any of you used this turbo, maybe you could share your experience with me, is it really worth the 800 bucks for it? what kind of HP does this unit generate over a stock turbo?
i hear it flows 700 cfm, i dunno what the stock turbo flows.
i just dont want to waste my cash on this turbo, and be mad because it shows no difference.

right now, i have a v-1 intake, with slightly worked heads, with headers and a 2.5 downpipe, with 36 # injectors with a 340 fuel pump
do you think with a setup suich as this..... i could utilize the full effect of this turbo?
i just dont want to buy it and make my car not benefit from it

thanx for your input

The TA33 is probably one of the easiest and beneficial mods to throw on a hotair car. This stock appearing Ta49 compressor wheel stuffed in a stock 84/5 housing can produce double cfm's the stocker does at less boost, with much less heat. It is a direct bolton of the stocker, therefore there is nothing else needed! With the basic go fast mods, you can get that sucker in the 12's with ease. Stock turbo's are good for 13's which is impressive, but who knows how long that ol little girl would hold out at high boost. So I say thumbs up to the Ta33

I've been considering the 33 for my car, too.

It works well with the stock converter? What injectors would top that combo off nicely? Those flow numbers are the same as what I found. It sure sounds like a nice upgrade. Glad to see the positive comments so far....

well..

I went 12.15 @ 114 mph with that turbo at 24 psi.... I thought it was ok :) 2800 converter and 38 lb inj... 36's would work too....

I don't think there is a downside to that turbo. Only upsides and a turbo upgrade on a hotair makes a huge difference.

hhmm...i like the sound of this turbo. who sells it? does it use the stock exhaust housing?

poston sells the ta-33c turbo
i think it is 850 bucks
i do think u have to give them your stock turbo when you buy one off them.

i think it is a complete stock bolt up, i do think u need to use your stock exhaust housing

the t-33 is basically just a modified version of the turbo on the car already.

postons number is

# 800- 635 9781

does anyone know any other vendors that sell this turbo, besides postons?.
all i gotta do is find a way to pay for it , lol

thanx for you info guys
i cannot wait to get this thing on the road, its always fun to embarass some guy that thinks his car is fast because he has a loud exhaust haha

John Craig @ Limit Engineering in Lake Havasu...Number is listed on the GNTTYPE vendors page...

turbo

Go straight to John Craig, that way if you have a problem, no middle man. John was a rep. for Garrett. He has built experimental pieces for me and knows what works for the 84-85.

John Craig is the person I dealt with per Lee and he did an excellent job. You also can go bigger turbo this way.

I got my TA-33C about a year ago from John Craig, and the turbo was great!

Worked "ok" with stock injectors, but if you upgrade the turbo I would look into buying a set of blue tops (36lb at least)...after 17+ years the stock injectors flow like crap, and that in combination with a large turbo is one that is just asking for a problem.

Last month I noticed my Turbo smoked a little, and it was leaking externally....so I pulled it off, and sent it back out to him for a warrenty claim..he asked no questions. When I called to check up on the turbo it had already been apart, and he was putting it back together again...I can't wait to get it back from him!

The TA-33C is the turbo to get if your looking to make your Hot-Air perform, and if you don't want to loose that "stock appearing" engine comparment.

Just my take on the 33 Vs the Stocker

Got with John.....my PTE 33 with 9 k puked and when I sent it back I got a 300.00 bill and a month of excuses why it took six weeks to fix it.

My car has not had any low-end boost since this nightmare.

On the up-side it was like adding 75 hp when it as new, all other things the same. Boost came up quick and I ran 20-21 psi all the time.

But if you are going that far get with Jay and see what he would charge to mod your V1 to the V3. No more turbo to intake O-ring and you could run a 49 set up for a I/C car. Pick up a slightly used 49 from someone wanting to go faster and have less $ into the whole shabang.

Just a thought.

I have a t-33 with 37lb injectors great turbo but you need to get a stall converter at least a 2800 I couldn't spool off the line. I wiped a cam and blew the turbo so I have to get it rebuilt and invest money in a oil filter bypass. I also have a V1 intake and I think I'am going to agree with twins and upgrade the VI to the V3.

hey guys, i think i am goign to get the t-33
i just need that cash

who makes the turbos that poston sells?

can the t 33s work well with a stock converter?
i do have 36# pound injectors and the neccesary mods to my car. so i think the rest will be ok

i AM just trying to get a turbo as soon as possible, my car has been sitting up since january and i am getting to anxious to get it out

i want to get a v-3, but im tryign to stay original looking,

how long does it take to have some1 modify your turbo?i dont feel like waiting forever to get one

Take my advice and get it from John Craig. My ta-33 was great and made more power at 10 lbs boost than the stock one did at 17 lbs. boost. Remember that air flow is where the power is, boost is the restriction in through the engine. I ran the stock injectors but blue tops would be better.

does limit engineering modify your own turbo or would they have something like a t-33 in stock, and you just send yours as a core charge??

i know john does great work, but i dont want to waste my summer away waiting on it :D

They used my existing and did the mods. Call John he will explain. We sent our turbo back after a year and was re worked without issue, I guess it depends on the issue...

I bought a used ta33 off this sites for sale area turbo sounds cool but I never got the wastgate selinoide to work just ran a line from compresser husing to wastgate and never noticed much gain this is with stock injectors and no tuning think that might have a lot to do with it ?
