It varies but as long as you're up to date on oil changes and you drive nice the last mile or so before you shut the engine off, you should get at least 100,000 miles. Mine had 130,000 miles and I broke the shaft which I think was only because the car was pretty heavily modded with the stock turbo. I replaced it with another stocker and had the same failure in ~50 miles.

Mine was just replaced in 1994 just before I bought my car. It had about 80,000 miles on it after 8 years. I agree that it depends on how well you take care of it. I also remember reading in the owners manual on my dads mazda (which had a turbo) that after you run the turbo hard, you should always let your car idle for 30 seconds to cool it down before you shut it off. I don't know if that helps or not.

2112, I think the reason for letting the car idle for a bit after you drive it hard is to prevent "coking."
That being letting hot oil sit in the bearings, it chemically breaks down causing deposits....
I think...

Robbie,
I have never heard of coking before but it makes sense. The turbos get so hot I think it could definitely degrade the oil. Thanks.

2112, If you look at the majority of the ricer guys, they have turbo timers, allows the car to run for a few minutes after they "turnoff" the car, allowing the oil to continue flowing... Wondering how to hook one up to my car...

TURBO TIMER'S ADD 30-50000 MILES TO THE LIFE OF YOUR TURBO AND THEY'RE CHEAP AND EASY TO INSTALL.. PLUS MOST OF THEM HAVE OTHER COOL FEATURES LIKE HOUR METERS AND STUFF... GREAT FOR OIL CHANGES AND STUFF.... FOR THOSE OF YOU WHO DON'T HAVE THEM GET ONE.... THEY'RE WORTH TH 65-80 $

Where can we get these turbo timers? Is there a site that descibes how they work and how to set them up?

mine is made by hks go to they're web site ... also get turbo magazine there are all kinds of them in there
