Strange "found my old car" story.

Sold my 66 pro street Chevelle back in 1995 and haven't seen it since. Had the car for 20 years and wanted something more family friendly and that is how I ended up with the GN.

Always regretted selling it and lost touch with the 2nd guy that owned it after I sold it. He bought it from the guys I sold it to in NY state. They basically made it into a circus car with gross graphics and other dumb mods but hey, it was their car. Guess one of the"partners" got divorced and the car had to go. This other guy bought it without the blown big block I had in it, he built another big block for it and blew it up on it's maiden voyage and ended up selling it again. This was about 8 or so years ago. Always wondered what happened to it.

Yesterday, brought some of my old framed magazine articles of the Chevelle into work to put on my office walls along with some old trophies. Ironically I get home from work and there is a message from a friend who says he was in touch with a guy who now owns the car!

OK, here is the kicker, the car is in a car collector storage place located 2 miles from my house! Hoping to go see it this weekend. Not sure what to expect, will take pics!:smile:

Finally got to see the Chevelle tonite. Wasn't quite sure to what to expect. I had seen pics of what the new owners did to it so I wouldn't be completely shocked.

Was sort of like seeing an old girl friend who still looked pretty good and with a little cleaning up would be as good as new. Maybe she was wearing a little too much makeup now but her body was still like you remembered.:biggrin:

The motor and trans are not the ones I built for the car but at least it is still a blown big block, was converted to automatic from the Doug Nash ( now Richmond) 5 speed . Interior had an ugly blue carpet that needs to go, (had an all black interior). Blue belts don't match either. Some bars on the roll cage were added which were actually nicely done.

Graphics, eh, not my doing or the etched glass but it looks better in person. The basic paint was surprisingly still in great shape considering it was painted in 1990.

My son finally got to see the car in person as I sold it about 4 months before he was born. New owner who bought it from the 3rd person who owned it after I sold it is a real nice guy and has a collection of 30 cars. Just in this location he has a Yenko Camaro clone, 73 Z28, Porsche Turbo Carrera and 2 68-9 big block Corvettes.

Told the guy I want visitation rights.:biggrin:

It still looks like a very nice car! A blown,big block Chevelle whats not to like?
I do agree with you about the graphics,sorta gives it the 70's look.The car appears to have held up very well.

Were you tempted to ask the current owner about maybe buying it back from him?...

Right now neither of them run! Trans is out of the GN getting freshened up and the Chevelle has to be put back together. My money is on the GN in a race though.:biggrin:

If I had the $$$ I would buy it back and put a TR drivetrain in it! Would not keep the paint as it is only because of the graphics. Not sure if you could wet sand them off or not. Will have to see if I hit Powerball this week.

That's what really blows my mind, of all the places for it to end up. He's had it for 6 months now and I drive by where it is ALL the time. Been looking for it for years as I lost track of where it went.

The guy is bucks up so it should be back on the street next year. Going to see if he wants to hire me on as a consultant.:biggrin:

Guy was really cool and not pompous like someone with a lot of money can be. Weird that he never heard of me or the car before as I am sort of infamous in this area. He told me once it is together I am welcome to drive it, will take him up on that as I would like to give my son a ride in it.

BTW, those two Vettes are "survivor" cars, never modded or restored.
