Hi- great board, glad to know others love these old 4v turbo regals...
Can someone enlighten me on the gearing on this old buick, tho?
First gear is so low that all the engine does is wind up and out, then hits second and *wham* the car is off like a bat out of hell. You have to feather the gas in first and wait for second, basically.
Throttle increase at speed (50mph+ passing, for example) immediately downshifts to second gear (which is way too low for the application), I have to let off the gas to induce it to shift... or else the mill is just wound up for no benefit.
The drivetrain behaves quietly and flawlessly when you don't expect it to leap, however.
I'm used to the TH350/400 and this tranny doesn't make sense to me. I know the car is bone stock, bought by my wife's grampa off the lot in '80.
I 'm restoring it completely, but really dislike the gearing. I love the mill and the body style though! Suggestions?>
Thanks!
