I appreciate all the help given me on this board but am unable to find out why this car runs this way. It will go for days running fine then all of a sudden it gets in a mood to stumble on mild acceleration. I bought a scanmaster in hopes of it showing me what was going on but it hasn't. It never shows any error codes and the maf numbers stay steady while the car is stumbling all over itself.Any input would be greatly appreciated as I don't want to start changing parts and guessing what is wrong. Thanks, Tommy

Tommy, about a year ago I was having a missing problem at anything over 14 lbs. of boost. I went ahead and changed my coil pack and ignition module. Didn't help. Turned out to be a bad cam lobe. Got that fixed and a few months ago I started having the same problems that you are having! One day I decided to try my
17 year old coil pack that was just laying around. The car ran fine for about a month and then started doing it again. Well, I still had the 17 year old ignition module and I said what the heck, why not try that. It hasn't missed in over a month with it! So far it seems like the old original equipment is better than the new stuff!!!! Hope this helps, R.B.

plugs

The plugs are recent--don't know about the wires. I don't want to start changing things in hopes of finding a cure, that's why I bought the scanmaster. Today was the first time it showed an error code--#24. I think that shows up as a bad speedometer/broken cable but the speedometer is fine. There must be a way to figure this thing out. It only bucked about 30% of the time today.

Tommy, swap out the coil pack and ignition module with a friend that has a good one. Only takes about 15 minutes. Bet that fixes it. R.B.

Tommy....I agree with these guys.....the first thing is to check coil pack and module and wires/plugs. I'm dealing with the same thing now.(weird bucking above 12 psi)

After I changed the fuel filter it helped, but still UNDER HEAVY LOAD IE: POWER BRAKING it acts up. Right away this points to ignition, as the demand is more at higher boost levels and RPM.

I'm starting with the coil pack as the module is more expensive. And my buddies close by have sold their GN's so no easy swap. I'll bet as well it is ignition related. I hope mine is too, I went through the same thing 5 years ago.

I wish I could say a scanmaster is a good tool to fix these cars with, but it is really more of a tuning tool. Malfunction codes rarely appear on mine, but they are also a great way to prevent major problems....watching the knock etc.

Keep us posted,
Chris

???????

Thanks, guys, but if it was ignition wouldn't it get worse as I put a load on it? This only happens under MILD acceleration. When I kick it into boost it goes fine. Mike at fullthrottlespeed just told me to watch the battery voltage when it's doing it in case it's a bad ground somewhere. I'll try that tomorrow. Tommy

seems like these cars like to stumble . . . . . :D
i thought i fixed my stumble problem but it is still around.
i watched my battery voltage the other day at WOT and it dropped about .5 volts. would this cause a stumble? anything above 16lbs and the car stumbles a lot more. at 15lbs or less and i do not notice any stumble.
i hope everyone else gets their problems figured out. :D
