Hello all,
I apologize for probably a dumb question that has been answered in previous threads that I just haven't been able to find. Can anyone help me on downpipes. Thanks in advance for your help with a new member. :)

I have '87 GN and still running stock turbo and downpipe. I would like to change but seem to be overrun with the choices. I need to keep it under $400 total and want to keep stock wastegate. Starting at the least expensive one (the 2-piece 3" Kirban unit) is this a good bang for buck? I also just saw a thread for THDP @ $385.

I would think opinions are all over the map here and not trying to get someone to bash another brand, just trying to get any advice to get me going in any direction on this.

I've had my buick since 1994 and ready to start tweaking it again. Thank you very much for your help.

well are you goin to just do that or other things to. bigger isn't always better :p

Dan,
If I can remember correctly, I've done the following over past 10 years...

Big neck on stock IC
red stripe injectors w/ chip
Fuel pressure regulator and fuel pump
boost guage
Ported turbo, stock headers, dog house and intake
Had to re-build transmission so went with 3,000 Hughes stall
Will want to upgrade to larger turbo down the road as well

Scooby Doo-
Went to RJC website. Nice looking piece. This is direction i needed.
Thank you sir.

i didnt see alky in your mods. an aftermarket DP may be overkill on a ported stock turbo. go with the alk and a chip. just my .02

X2 ... I bet your car would love alky !! then maybe after that a bigger downpipe. RJC is very nice !!

Started out with a Kirbans 2 piece...fit fine but leaked at the exhaust elbow. Sold it and went to a GBODY DP...had to pound the crap out of it to clear the frame, and then later the puck started hanging up in it. Bit the bullet and went to an RJC 3" DP. Fit was perfect and the puck works perfectly...couldn't be happier.

If you have to keep it under 400, find a used one on our for sale section. Though, for now, I'd do alky, chip and electric exhaust cutout. But if you do those mods, you're going to need some SERIOUS race tires after that.
