I have been watching this forum for along time and I have investigated this online as well. Some people say they have tested this and it is a myth and other people say, "no way" do not do it! Now that people have been running E85 for quite some time what is the general thought on aluminum fuel lines. I am all set up for E85 (see signature), but I am not sure about the 1/2" Summit brand natural (not anodized) finish aluminum supply line that runs from the fuel cell to the front of the car. What do you guys think?

Also wanted to add: Does anyone use e85 with Champion aluminum fuel rails. I think those are natural un-anodized aluminum also. Any issues with this?

I used the summit alum fuel line from the cell overflow to out of the car and from the trunk floor into the cell return .. I dont see any issue with corrosion All the rest of my plumbing is aeroquip teflon. summit will price match aeroquip.cc which has killer prices on aeroquip teflon hose and fittings

How did you run your lines? I purchased some teflon hose for the full length of the car, but I am considering going stainless feed lines and bending them myself to fit. I would wonder how much of a pain this would be. Keep us posted. I have a fuel cell going in the trunk, and I would like to keep it as safe as possible.

I would be leary of using aluminum lines for fuel. Aluminun work hardens when flexed. If you must use aluminum, make sure it is securely fastened to the frame so that it does not flex any! I ran SS-braided hose rated for fuel. IMHO, this is NOT a place to save a few bucks!

I would avoid aluminum all together. I really would like to go 1/2" stainless tubing (-8AN) but I cant seem to find it anywhere. I was going to go ahead and bend my own custom feed/return lines with it. I may just have to stick with teflon.

Since no one in this thread has used alum line in the entire fuel system, I will add my 2 cents.

About 4 or 5 years ago I ran Summit 1/2" alum line in my car from where the stock gas filter is located to the engine compartment. It was fed along side the current 3/8" supply line within the frame, and they exit together at the stock location.

The stock 3/8" line was converted and is now used for the return line.

At both ends of the hard lines, stainless braided lines go to their respective places.

Since then, I have do 8 or 10 other GN's the same way, and so far, all is good!:)

What E-85 will do to alum, I do not know, but do not see how it can be worse than some of the exotic race fuels?

have used it for years with E85 with no problems what so ever, even at working pressures of well over that of a EFI fuel system. Have used it for other things at well over 150psi with no problems as well

i don't think that the 60psi or so that your fuel system will see under boost will cause any problems with the line, and i don't think that the E85 will cause any problems as far as corrosion is concerned.

If anyone is about to buy some aluminum line and fittings.. i have some here that I will never use and can let you cheaper than you can order.

Also have a few fittings. I can't remember what I was going to do with this. but it's all new stuff.

Just shoot me an email and I'll round up what I have.

Thanks!

A much better way to go, if you have the flaring tools that will do the stainless.[I use single flares].
I've used the Swageloc fittings. They are a compression fitting that will withstand more psi than the tubing will. NOT cheap, but flaring s/s is a rpita....
