I have a 1978 231 long block freshly rebuilt and I am trying to sort the oil pan and pickup. Currently, I have a core with a center sump oil pan and the proper pickup for that setup.
It turns out the old oil pan has had enough pitting in the pan to put a pinhole in the pan. There's other pitting, so I intended to purchase another oil pan... however, a center sump oil pan seems to be fairly hard to track down.
Can anyone offer some input as to what's involved in converting this to a rear sump oil pan... I assume a different pickup is needed and if it's possible to source these somewhere. I'm having a helluva time finding an oil pan and the information that I can find about 1st design and 2nd design pans and pickups is confusing, to say the least.
I'm putting this in a willys pickup, so I have no space concerns that would dictate needing any particular sump location, so if I have to replace the pan and the pickup, I'd just as soon go with a rear sump.
Anyone have any ideas, input and/or sources?
Thanks a ton, Jeff
