anyone swapped in a 87 GN motor for a 85? I have a 87 T Type that I want to put the motor from in my 85 GN is this as straight forward as I think it is? I will need to put the computer in also correct? Should I swap in the trans too? Let me know what to do/expect...as my username implies I am new turbo buicks ...counting on a little help from you guys the experts...tonyalester@earthlink.net

Why would you want to swap a 87 intercooled motor for an 85 hot air motor?

nickb, I think you read it wrong he is putting a 87 motor (from a ttype) in his 85 gn
trans would be a good idea you will also need wiring harness & computer

85 out 87 in

sorry if I made that unclear..but I am putting the 87 motor in the 85 GN everything should go pretty smooth correct? No fancy wiring or anything like that? I have the whole car(87 T-type) So I have anything that I need. Is the rearend any better in the 87?

Rear is the same. swap the tranny. I have no clue on the wiring but if you have the hole car swap the harness

If possible you should use the 87 wiring harness. That way you will have the fan relays and the mat sensor.Swapping the harness can't be too hard if I can do it. If you want to see my 87-85 swap look below in my sig. at Pics of my Buicks.

the Gnx replica is great where did you get the pieces to do it at(grill emblem, fender vents, wheel well lips, turbo shroud, and wheels ..did I miss anything?) I believe I want to turn my 85 into a Gnx clone too...let me know something.

what brake system do you have on the 85? if its the hydroboost-you would have to change to vacuum system also.

85-87GN/Ts came with the power master brakes,84s had hydraboost brakes.
