Swapping from 01 to 06 Silverado mirrors.

Hey guys, I have a 01 Silverado 2500HD with the small side mirrors. They are power adjust, heated. I would like to swap to a 06 mirror, which is the larger glass over the smaller convex fixed glass. The 06 mirrors are heated, power adjust, but have turn signals built in. I found out the 01 and 06 doors are the same part number, which leads me to believe it would be a direct bolt-in deal. I believe everything would basically be plug and play except the turn signals, since the 01's didn't have that option. Would tapping into the turn signal wire pose a problem? These computer controlled vehicles do some funny stuff. Has anyone done this swap? How would I best get the turn signals to work in the new mirrors?

The best help I can give you is to say that they will be a direct bolt in. My buddy did it on his 03 2500HD for the same reason and he pulls a trailer everyday. The dealer said they would not fit when he bought them, but it was a direct swap when he changed them. As for the turn signals, I think the 03 had them anyway so he didn't have to do anything. I would think a splice into the turn signal wiring would do the trick though. You may check to see if the turn signal was an option in 01. If it was then you may have the wiring already there but it just wasn't hooked up to your mirror......or GM may have an upgraded harness to make it work too.

You know, I figured people have done it out there, but I've searched and searched for a board with a thread on this subject. Unfortunately in 01 there was not an option for turn signals in the mirrors. I do a lot of towing and I'm tired of the cheap arsed SEPA plastic mirror add-ons, and plus I want to be kewl too!!

Mirrors will bolt in, I did 99-02 mirrors on my 05 because the 05's were way to big for my taste. As far as the wiring goes, it's pretty easy to make the signals work. Check out www.fullsizechevy.com, theres tons of info on it in there. ------Jeremy

I would just get them and put them on. See if you can get the turn signals to work but if not at least you got the better mirrors
