I am switching out my intake for a ported one, and when i got it off FINALLY. But, when it came off, there was black strip on the back lip of the block. Kind of hard to explain. wish i got picturs. But, its the lip behine the open space where all the pushrods are, there is a black strip across the front and back. The back one is ripped, and needs to be replaced. Do any ofyou know where i can get this?

Also, where can i get a oil drain back tube seal? Please help me. I need to get this done.

The black strips are actually rubber seals for the intake.
Got them in my intake gasket kit from Oreily.

The turbo drain back grommet is available here;

Do you think autozone or somewhere like that would have it? And do i need to get the whole kit just to get those seals? how much was your kit? Got a website address?

I also have a couple more questions. I also put on the elbow on the turbo. do i need to put some type of gasket on there, or is metal to metal ok? Also, when i took off the intake, some antifreeze got into the engine. is that ok, and i can just drain and refill the oil?

You can get the intake manifold gasket set pretty reasonably from Autozone, Pep Boys, O'Reilly's etc. I prefer the metal intake gasket set. Comes with a metal valley pan gasket, and the black front and rear seals. blue colored felpro #ms96033

Here is a post about them:

About the antifreeze getting into the motor... Right before putting the intake back on, pour a fresh quart of oil down the valley, wherever the antifreeze would have gone, as if to "rinse" it. Install the intake, etc, then change your oil and filter. Just do not start it with any antifreeze in the oil.

Thanks a million squid. Hey, Is there any photo guides that you know of that show where every bolt goes, along with what steps to do in order to get the intake back in the right way?

Ohyeah, and what about the turbo elbow. Do i need to put some type of gasket sealer on there, or is it ok to just do it metal to metal?

Now that i just looked at that link too, when i get this new gasket, do ihave to get some type of sealant, or can i just put the gasket on, and be done with it? If i need it, what do i need, and EXACTLY where do i put it?

Put the gaskets on, put some RTV in the corners, and lightly around the water ports. Follow the torque sequence, I believe in a circle from the inside. Torque in a few steps, (15, then 20, etc) and go back and recheck a few times. When you put the intake on, try to put it straight down, don't drop it or slide it. Once you lay in in place, get a small mirror and look around the entire intake to make sure no gasket slid or pinched.

For the exhaust elbow, I would assume metal to metal is okay as long as the surfaces are true, but would get some high high temp sealer to be sure.

Post any other question. I probably have pics if you aren't sure how something goes.

Well, i dont really understand what you meen by all that stud bolt, stud stud thing. im guessing the order you go in? Can you send me some pics of the intake, so i can remember where each bolt goes. Cant remember exactly. Oh yeah, and do you know exact torque specs, or is it 15, then 20?

My pics are kind of hard to understand, I had to look at about 5 different ones to get all the bolts/studs in order. That is the order, although it looked better before the spacing was removed automatically...

Torque spec is 32 ftlbs I am pretty sure. Just go around at 15, then again at 25, then finally at the 32. Then go around and double check at 32. You might run a tap through the holes to make sure they are clean and you get a good torque reading. Bolts seems to act strange covered in sealer, or in dirty holes.

if your useing fel pro 1200 intake gaskets the rubber strips will not work because the felpro gaskets are thicker than the steel valley pan gasket, you can use a thick bead of silicone for this and let it cure about 20 - 30 minutes before installing the intake and it will work fine.

Good point. I actually prefer to run about a 1/4" bead front and rear (on a SBC) but haven't tried it with the Buick.

I guess im still a little confused here. I was going to get the gasket kit from advanced auto parts that ends in 33. IM not sure if it has the rubber rings or not. I dont think it does. I guess ill just work with it.

Rubber rings? Are you talking about the ~8" long black rubber seals that go over the rear of the block under the manifold, or the o-rings that are used on the turbo to intake adapter?

Nevermind. I was replying to highboost. Now i see what hes saying.

If i use the fel pro that ends in the 33, i should be able to use the rubber strips without doing what he mentioned with the 1200 series or whatever fel pro gaskets.
