I'm not sure that Mobil 1 is any better than other synthetics. But it is a lot easier to find in stores than other full synthetic oils, and often available in quantity discounts.

One other point to consider on synthetics: They also tend to increase gas mileage by a dependable 1-2 mpg (especially when used in tranny and diff, too), depending on the vehicle, in my experience. Together with all the other benefits, that's why I use synthetic oils, especially on any car with a heat pump like our TRs.

As for the original question, I've never noticed any increased oil leakage that I could blame on synthetic oils, and that's after using Mobil 1 and Redline for the past six years or so on a number of different vehicles.
