What a track day from hell...
Show up at 5:45 am and was about 75-100 cars in line
Pulled in right behind Brent (of all the odds)
When the gates opened at 6:00 am, Satan's ricer spawn came crawling out of the sewers & bushes and about 100 cars came in from all directions other than the long a$$ line we were waiting in and they managed to get into the staging lanes before us
So now we are about 250 cars back in the overall count
Brent ended up in group #5 (cars 200 - 250) and I ended up in group #6 (cars 250 - 300)
Then it started to drizzle and they delayed opening up the track
The track was lightly prepped, cold and slippery, and coupled with the ricers and their water slinging street radials, the starting line was like an ice skating rink
My 1st run was a Trans Brake nightmare (AGAIN!)
I did a decent burnout, staged and started building boost, slapped the shifter forward out of the trans brake (19 psi) and the race was on
Or so I thought
Once again I found out how easy it was not to slap the shifter all the way up into drive and 1/8 mile down the track when I hit the top of 2nd gear, I also hit the rev limiter (6400 rpm) and proceeded to snap, crackle & pop the rest of the way down the track. I knew the race was done so i backed off the gas and coasted across the line at 12.0 sec and 83 mph....lol
Needless to say I was pissed....and disappointed
So I went back to the pits with my tail between my legs, cleaned & re-gapped my plugs, scanned the FAST data log and changed my rev limiter from 6400 rpm to 7500 rpm. I also backed the boost down to 25 psi and waited to try it again.
2nd burnout was nice and long
Staged & started building boost
Left at 15 psi boost and did the the achy breaky a$$ shaking dance down past the 60 ft mark before it finally straightened out and went into afterburner
No pops, no rattles, no rev limiter, and finally my 1st TEN SECOND RUN
Of course the time slip TROLL was lurking in the shadows and promptly relieved me of my run card and said "your day is done"
When I saw the time, I gladly gave up the card and realized that my 1/4 mile goal had finally been met
The boost is already back down to 15 psi, the front swaybar goes back on tomorrow, the methanol is turned back on, and my racing days are DONE.
Thanks to all that showed up today and for those who offered their support
Happy hunting to the rest of you as you pursue your individual goals
Best regards,
Ray
