T-Top problems

I have a ton of t-top problems, , gaps between weatherstripping, wind comming in sounds like a hurricane in the car.


a fried said the roof might be buckled.

How do I resolve this, a new ROOF??????

I have all the standard suspension upgrades, GNX seat brace, f1 bars, uppper & lower CA.


any thoughts , i hate driving the car with the sounds......

Peel off the foam, and put thicker foam in. The ring around the hole in top of car. Kirbans and others sell the stuff, but a hardware store also has black foam strips. Take apart T-tops and see what you can tighten, adjust, and shim to keep quiet and tight. May have to get a little trailer-park, and use cardboard, duct tape, glue, etc. inside T-top .

Years ago, I went to home depot, bought black rubber pipe insulation for 1/2" pipes. Takes about $12 worth.......comes in 4' lengths. Cut to appropriate lengths and laid it around the lengths of the t-top and sealed it down. No need for glue. In a couple weeks the insulation will assume the form under the top. Now and has been quiet, since.

kirbans sells a manual on how to adjust your T-Tops and window rattles. It come out of the factory service manual, it is really informative. Cost maybe 15-20 bux? Big help!

Elasomeric pipe insulation. Comes for different diameter pipes. Get the 1/2" pipe size. It looks like black weatherstripping. I'm sure they'll have it, up your way.

Where did you put the ins.? Do you lay it on the factory weather stripping? Or do you put it on the metal behind the weather stripping? And finnaly, is this just a band-aid fix?

I pulled all the old factory seals off. You just lay the insulation in the tracks where the original stuff was. Then, clamp down the roof. You have to pretty much have someone sit on the TTop so you can lock it on. As I said, after a few days, the pressure of the top on the insulation, will cause it to stick and form to the space it is in.

I did replace it all once, but haven't done anything for at least two years and still, wind noise is at a minimum. TTops are just another place that needs attention and maintenance.

does the existing weatherstrip in the ttops run along the doors also???

If you mean on at the and part of the window glass, I did nothing at that location.

Again, just lay it across the front, you can even put it around the opening, also. Down the center on both sides, and in the groove at the rear of the opening.

Check to see if the urathane is seperating from the glass where the latch is, under the plastic trim. It may need to be reglued, no adjustment will help that.

I don't take the tops on and off. After they're locked down, the insulation grabs the glass some. The longer they're down, the more they stick. If you like to take the glass in and out, you could probably put some silicone on the glass to help it not to stick but personally, I don't take my tops out.

Like I said, just lay the insulation across all the grooves, and also right near the openings in front and down the center. Sometimes it's hard to do all at once. Just put it in the grooves first, seal it down for a couple weeks, then take out the tops and place a second row.......or do nothing if your satisfied with the seal.

Hmmm...They don't show it online, and I called there today and they said they didn't have a book on it. SPOOLN said they sell a book on how to adjust T-tops and window rattles. I read that to mean they were both included in the same book, and since the book contained about 50 pages it sounded right. I guess I will re-phrase my statement and say the anti-rattle and window adjustment book does not include adjusting T-Tops.

Now do you have said book? Would you be interested in selling it or loaning it? I would appreciate it. I would like to do the weatherstripping and window adjustments all in one shot. - Thanks -- Jason
