well I am new to this board, I am looking into buying a 1 of these cars, and was hoping for some advice i found an 81 gn the guy said I really dont know too much about the buicks sorta a ford guy ..but i wanna switch over...I do know alittle bit about turbos and what now..did they even make a gn in 81? is this guy trying to pull a fast 1 on me.I am hopefully selling my mustang to join get a Fast car...thanks mike

Regal GN's started as a trim option in 1982, only about 200 built. They were all painted two-tone gray over silver. Most all were non-turbo 4.1 V6's. The next Regal GN was released for 1984 and lasted `till 1987, all black, all injected turbos...I'd run far away from an "81 GN" :)

Just a note, if you want speed go only for 86-87 GN/T-Type. They were the intercooled motors and the parts for them are pretty available either dealer wise or aftermarket.

I would take the extra time and scope out a posi car, just so you dont have to change it later. Yes, not all were posi.

GN or TType depends on personal preference, my gn always turns heads, where as a Ttype perhaps not as much cause its so much of a sleeper look.

Read up here first:

You do not want to go into buying one of these cars misinformed. Definately do your homework, read all you can first. That way you know what to look for when you are looking at one.

This board is a great help though, lots of good people here and they know their stuff. Post any questions you have here, but you will certainly want to read up on the GN TType website first.

Welcome aboard!

The GN as we know and love it didn't appear until 84. Anyone who says they have an 81 probably also has an 83 corvette. As far as which is the better buy the T-Types seem be to be a little less money and give just as much bang for the buck. Dennis Kirban published a "buyers guide" you may want to acquire (kirbanperformance.com)

Actually, the GN actually began in 82 as an option package.
Most were made with just the cosmetics and the NA 4.1
Very few were 3.8 turbos.

There was no 83 GN however, but it became the all black beast in 84 with the "hot-air" 3.8 turbo (w/o the cooler).

As far as an 81, it could be a sport coupe, but not a GN.
