I've been mulling over and waffling back and forth on what I want to do with this car. My car will never be a show car so I might as well do what I really want with it. I am stuck in So-Cal for another 8-9 years so as of right now all my racing will be 1/8 mile unless I take it to Vegas or Phoenix.

Is a TA-6262 DBB enough turbo to push a average weight TR (solid roof, power accessories) to 6.50-6.60 in the 1/8th (low 10s?) or should I be looking at something a bit bigger?

The turbo is currently boxed up and ready to send back to PTE because of this thread: http://turbobuick.com/forums/thread...-this-noise-down-to-the-downpipe-puck.377863/ My smokey stock turbo was quiet so it is an issue in that turbo. On a side note, I can now swap turbos in about 15 min
  • I know the TA housing is going to be a restriction. I am not against going to a TE style anymore, but if I can keep the current turbo, great.
  • I will probably have to run race gas to do it. 24ish PSI on 91/Alky might not be enough.
  • The short block already has steel caps and TRW forged pistons.
  • The converter is currently a 3200 stall N/L 9.5".
  • I assume I might need better heads and cam than what I have. The heads have bigger valves and port work done behind them but just light cleanup otherwise. I would love to go with GN1's but the lack of EGR makes it even harder to smog the car here in CA.
  • The cam is odd, details are in another thread. (http://turbobuick.com/forums/threads/cam-question.377940/)

You will need everything working for you to run 6.50 with a 6262. The stock compressor cover will fall short. A purpose built engine will be required and the converter will need to be spot on also.

The question comes down to would a bigger turbo help then? At this point I don't care if it is JB or BB.

The converters the trans guy does seem to be doing good in the 10sec car's i've seen them in but if I drive over it PTC is a phone call away :p

By purpose built what do you mean? Stroker? The short block has steel caps and forged pistons, stock crank and rods all ARP studs.
I have a CAS V2 front mount, MAF Translator W/LS1 MAF and Razor Alky kit. Currently using 55# incjectors, 340M pump hotwired so that may need upgraded.

Looking at say a 4-5K budget for new parts, all labor done by me, how does this look:

Roller Cam$1,000.00
CNC Irons$1,200.00
Roller Rockers $300.00
CNC Intake$300.00
72# Injectors$360.00
New TT Chip$85.00
Gaskets/Misc$250.00
