oh crap, i got the Trans AM seats in finally today. looks AWESOME. certainly far more supportive (in the vicinity of 1000% more id say). i dont know if anyone has done it yet but i hooked up the power motor in the driver seat so now i got power driver and manual passenger seats with power lumbar and side bolsters in both. i made a discovery while installing them. the GN and TA seats motors, motor plate mount bracket, and wiring is exactly the same, even down to the colors of the wires! what i did was disconnect the TA motor with mounting plate from the TA tracks and do the same to the GN one and swap them. so now i have a TA driver seat with new TA motors. this makes the install sooooo much easier b/c i was able to plug and play the wiring harness for both TA seats and all i had to splice was the power and ground wire. NOTE: my stock power wire didnt work so i had to run a new one from the fuse panel to the seat wires. heres a tip if you get TA seats: before removing both TA and GN seats move them all the way up as high as they will go. this will make removal of the tracks a hell of a lot easier as you can now get a socket in there. this project took me about 2 days but that was with my mess ups and i had to get new nuts. done again it would take about 3-4 hours i suppose. it is very worth the hassle IMO. you can put manual tracks in the driver seat like ZAM70 did if you prefer both seats to be manual. i wish i coulda taken pics but my bud didnt bring his camera but if anyone has any questions, feel free to ask me:)

Sounds good! I have some Recaros for my T-type and I'm going to have to weld up some sort of custom bracketry..wish they'd bolt in.

Corey. take pics soon!

oh yes Zam well worth it! its now like flying a plane versus flying a couch like with the old seats. dathan, ill try and get pics soon but if you need any help with your install it would be best to call me as the pics will just be finished pics like Zam's are. are you doing power driver?

This is some good information regarding the power seat setup.
I bought a '98 Trans-AM driver seat for cheap last winter and installed it in my '87 Cutlass.
It has full power with power lumbar but I have not got any of it hooked up.
My driving force for switching to the TA seats was after I ran my car at a local SCCA Solo II competition. Those stock buckets didn't do anything for support and I practically had the center console riding up my crack the whole time. LOL:D

Here's a pic of mine:

How did you get the power lumbar hooked up? I assume there is an electric pump for this?
Thanks,

yes there is a pump for this. unfortunately it is located under the passenger seat. guess that means you need another TA seat, WHAT A SHAME! ;) did you get the TA wiring harness with your seat? if so you will see it has the hoses and connectors for the air lumbar and side bolsters on it in addition to the wires for both the seats.

Ah okay. I didn't know that. Yes I still need to get the passenger seat. I had just happened to find this seat by itself for a really good price and couldn't pass it up. :)

Yes. I have the complete power F-body seat track along with the tubes for the lumbar.

So am I understanding your first post correctly in that you just removed the power modules/solenoids from the F-body track and swapped them onto a power G-body track? I have a spare power G-body track in a parts car that I had planned on using to try and convert my car to power seats.
Thanks for the help!

nice post constuction BigBlockOlds. yes i removed the motors and motor mounting plate from the F-body tracks and put them on the GN power tracks. basically the only part about my driver seat that is from the G-Body is the seat track itself. for the passenger seat i just did what everyone else does and swapped the manual G-Body seat track on to the TA seat and junked the original TA seat track as it is useless to me.

Cool. Sounds like thats the plan for me!

Yep, thats the way I have my drivers side seat setup now. I've got to figure out how I need to hook up the power seats in my car since it didn't come with them in the first place. I probably could just swap over the wiring harness from the donor parts car I have to make it work.
Thanks for the help. This has been a great post!

if your car didnt come stock with a power driver seat the only thing i think you would need to do is run power and ground wires to the TA harness for the new power seat. i ran a power wire from the fuse panel, along under the door step chrome thingy where all the other wires are and thru the carpet under the seat. ground is easy to hook up.
