ta49 or te 44?

Which turbo is better, I have both of them, i'm running 3400 conv, 50lb msd inj, champion heads, front mount, etc

Your combo is mighty big for actually either one of these turbos....The heads are putting so much air that you won't really feel the effect. If you are set w/either one, I like the TE 44 personally, pulls a lil bit harder than the ta49. The TA 49 is if you like stock appearing. I would really suggest stepping up though to probably a PT 54 or TE 60 or PT 67 from Precision. However the TE 60 really isn't that much of a gain over the TE44 as they both use the same compressor wheel.

Nice combo just make sure you get the correct turbo to MAXimize that same combo.....

I upgraded from a TA-49 to a TE-61 and I really like it. I don't have as much done combo-wise as you, but the TE-61 works great with my combo.

I had the 44 on before this fresh build, now i'll try the 49, and next spring i'll upgrade to something alot bigger, and probablly bigger injectors too. i also have a mease plenum w/ larger throttle body, bigger cam ,diamond pistons .030 over,hot wire kit, 307 walbro,etc,etc,

The 44 actually flows a bit more than the 49 does. If I remember correctly, its worth around 10hp on the top end.

Your combo is screaming for a bigger turbo, especially with that 3400 stall. A PT54 or TE63, TE64 Should easily put you well into the low 11's if not high 10's with a tune.
