How much power at the back wheels has any one put down with the ta49?What boost level, which cam, intercooler, injectors, stock or ported heads-throttle body, intake was used?

Per precisions trubo's website, the Ta 40 is good for 545 at the flywheel so figure around 400 at the wheels assuming you have enough injector. 42.5's are generally what people use with it.

Hi,
I think close to 500 hp is a realistic potential with the the TA49. What do you guys think?

See my signature. This is with stock heads except with comp springs at 19lb of boost. probally could of went with more boost but do not want to change hg again.

Read sig. Its all about tune. Get the car to come out of the hole hard and lighten up the boost/timing a little. Also lean is mean. DONT DETONATE! 1.55 60's with restalled D5 and 49 turbo is a killer combo.

What level of boost where you running with the 49 on the 11.34 run?

i made 414hp and 522tq with a Ta-49 and a bone stock longblock....100lb valve springs and double roller timing chain are the only thing done to the longblock.

Close to 500 is a good number.
My daily driver used to have a te44, basically its the same turbo as the ta49.

dice64-

About 4 years ago it was running msd 50s,23 row stock location stretch, red armstrong 107 18° chip 110 turbo blue octane. Was running low 11s, best was 11.19 at 119 with a 1.59sixty foot, car weight is 3800, and boost was set at 30psi.
Now, i wished i had been running 27psi and 25° of timing, but this was before eric was burning chips...
470 horse 615 torque is what it did.

Heads, intake and valve covers were never removed at the time, stock throttle body, no mods to upper plenum, and i was running a 2 1/2 inch downpipe thru a semi ported elbow with a 2 1/4 test pipe.... I keep that muffler shop test pipe here and laugh how fast the car was running thru it!! Its bent like a dogs hind leg....
D5 convertor and trans had never been pulled.

I think now if i bolted it back on, ran meth, i might be able to get 500 horses with some sunoco 104 and good timing.

Like Bo said, its all about tuning....
My goal with the stock turbo is 400HP at the tire, all i need to do is get the boost up past 21psi and some cool weather.

These cars are awesome!

25psi,converter locked,BL's 140, alky all the way up,02's @ 750's at the big end and no KR.
Thought I would run faster with bigger combo and found out that a tune is priceless rather than Just important.New time is with 27psi,converter not locked,bl's129, 780's for 02's and alky all the way up.

When I tune this combo out and lock the verter, it should run in the 10's with a good 60' but that is pushing a stock block  I have a while to tinker over the winter and figure out why my rear end is howling ;)

Making 470hp and 600lbs of torque with a untouched longblock is impressive with a TA49.Tuning is a wonderful thing.I can not wait to turn my up.Keep it coming people this is interesting.Makes me wonder why buy a bigger turbo for the street.

What Converter Are You Using W/ta-49? Recommended Stall?

If this Q is for me. I ran a stock D5 restalled to 2800..60's were in the 1.5-1.6 range with 8-10 psi at the line.

I would suggest purchasing either a red stripe 2800 restalled stock D5 convertor, or the orange crush 3000 restalled stock D5... Either can be purchased for about 280.00 new??
They always show up in the parts for sale section new and used for cheaper than you could purchase them from the "club",,,,

That or a 9/11 from bruce toelle??? The tranny guy in california, i always forget his shops name... Close to 650.00???

What ever you do, get a lockup convertor so you can put every ounce of power to the ground.
When i lock my convertor, it feels like another gear.. I have a 9/11 from bruce toelle..

Im in the market for 3000 stall lockup,in a 10 or 9 inch, stock diameter converter is too big on the tranny im installing.I will buy a new converter, just getting a feel on who to or not to deal with.

No,its a brf with hardened parts etc and not recommended to use a 12 incher due its hard shifting. Bigger dia. harder on hardened parts.

12'' is less heat and you know heat kills these tranny's. Bigger converter looses more % of HP. I loved the restalled 12" to launch and lock

I currently use a Vigilante single disk stalled at 3200 with the TA-49. I think this is a perfect combo. I can boost at the line like now. I don't have to worry about pre-building boost before lighting the second light.

I don't lock the converter since it is a single disk, but I'm happy with the converter and turbo for now. Last 1/4 mile run was a 11.59 at 114 mph.
