I have just received my rebuilt Ta61 back from Limit. The wheel movement feels like silk.I have one small question. My original Ta61 had a 3.5 in compressor adapter major diameter. The rebuild has a 3.0 in major diameter.Has someone else seen this before? If so what is the reason for the change? This is not a slam at "Limit", I have always respected their work.I tried to get in touch with them but they're gone for the "4th".

???

Yours was a 3.5" inlet? You need to call them so they can put yours on.

If you are talking about the inlet bell, I have a new TA61 that I just got from Limit and it came with a 3" version. I think that's just the standard size.

Was the turbo changed out to a GT comp wheel-if so maybe thats the reason -let us know what you find out.

Chopper had said the inlet bell I was sent was what they normally use.The bell which I received is aprox 3.125" major diameter and has a slight performance advantage over the larger one which I originally had.I did not get a "GT" wheel in this rebuild.I was told about one car going 10.7's with what I just got.Timeslips don't lie.

Tell me how a smaller inlet makes your turbo faster.... I'm going to have that same turbo, and I wanna know...
If a half inch smaller inlet is better, why don't you go to a 2.5" maf tube too?

Inlet Bell

The turbo compressor wheel inducer (inlet portion of the compressor wheel)does not get smaller, nor does the compressor housing inlet. The inlet bell (which I received back from Limit after my turbo was freshened) major diameter is smaller than the major diameter of the inlet bell previously on my turbo.I can see some flow and temperature advantages with the new inlet bell.I'm sure the gains are very small.

I understand what an inlet bell is. I run one as well. But I switched to the bigger billet bell from kirbans... for better spool up... My question is, if a smaller inlet diameter (regardless of what part it's on) is better, why aren't we all running 2.5" maf tubes? Why do the quicker spooling turbos have bigger intlets?
