the charcoal emmission canister vent is not controlled by the solenoid
the solenoid controlls the purge which opens to allow engine vacuum to draw out remove the accumulated vapor during decell and then burn it through the motor ,
if you leave the purge disconnected the tank still vents as it always did which is important for getting fuel out and more important to prevent exessive pressure that could build up due to heat , the canister vents through the open bottom (it has a filter over it but it is open) but it may have a gassy now smell due to accumulated vapors in the charcoal , and as far as emmissions goes it is no longer as effictive as when it has the purge but better than nothing
i dont have the cannister and just run thevent hose up to the fender by the horns and installed one of those 3/8 vents from 4x4 axles that they mount up on the fender
